I think, as the end nears, they will go full nuclear on Romney claiming he is not really Christian to try and scare off votes. But I don't think the voters they're trying to grab think that way; those people are already in Santorum's camp.

I'm still flabbergasted there is any support for Newt. His behavior was an impeachable offense to Republicans a while back.

"This isn't about math," Santorum says. "This is about vision."

Rick Santorum: "I'd like to be the republican candidate, which requires a certain number of delegates. I'd then like to run for president, which requires a certain number of electoral college votes. Which is a job that involves things like making tax dollars in equal spending dollars out, and lining up at least a certain number of votes in two houses of congress to get legislation passed. However, I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO MATH!"

Sadly, Rick, as President, there WILL be math involved.

Congrats. You have just disqualified yourself as a viable candidate. Go sit in the back of the room with your head down and think about that.

If, perhaps, this had been done more often in his past, we wouldn't have his dumb ass in front of us now as a candidate, he'd be grinding it out as a divorce attorney or contract lawyer--which, oddly enough, BOTH involve maths...

Santorum has said Protestants (methodists, baptists, lutherans etc etc) aren't christian. He has said mormons are cultists. So who in his mind is a real christian? Catholics. So when he said (which he did) that he wants to rewrite the constitution to be a christian document he really means he wants it to be a catholic document

SO when (god forbid) he takes his oath of office and he swears in front of his god, having laid his hand on the living word of that god, to uphold the constitution we have now... how is he not just going to burst into flame right then? Knowing he has already said he will rewrite would make his oath of office a lie when he takes it

FTFA: Romney's advisers claim it would take an "act of God," as one put it, for Santorum to take the lead in the delegate count. "If he is able to pull off a miracle so be it. He'll be the nominee," Romney said.

God later said, "Leave me out of this. I have nothing to do with this bumblefark of a primary".

I sure hope it's impossible. There are three bad outcomes from this election.

1. Obama re-elected
2. Romney elected
3. Santorum elected

In ascending order of horribleness. Santorum in the White House would mean either that we have to declare a president mentally unfit and remove him, or it would mean...the end.

I have to say, though, that I would get great satisfaction from the teabaggers and the fundies finding out just how far from their ideal Santorum would prove to be.

We haven't even made it to the general election and Obama is already kicking Santorum's ass.

Sticking it out to the convention and hoping to sway delegates from the frontrunner isn't a terrible strategy. But when two other people have that exact same strategy you are clearly doomed. Luckily all three candidates are too stubborn/stupid to pull out and let one person challenge Romney so the radical conservatives will continue to waste money and resources trying to stop the inevitable.

He's betting that he can buck tradition by getting delegates at the local level to thwart the will of the people and side with him over Romney.

I bet that would work out well in November, as the people that know you are a loon just stay home.

The fun part for me is the bind this puts Romney in. On the one hand he wants to appear as a reality based-moderate to appeal to the largest possible number of voters. On the other hand, as long as Santorum, Gingrich and Paul stay in the race, Romney has to swing hard-right to appeal to the base. Obama's campaign ads may well be little more than videos of Romney staking out crazy, extremist positions in the months before the election.

Honestly I doubt that it actually goes to the convention. Party conventions are too useful as pep rallies now and a party fight three months before the election is too damaging. I think that GOP highers ups are going to really crank up the pressure on the candidates to get things hashed out beforehand. If all four candidates actually go to the convention with the intention of fighting it out on the floor then three of them will get forcefully ejected from the party.

Here's hoping.

It would be amusing to see how a conglomerate of frightened nitwits (i.e., the GOP) would deal with the thunderous chaos of a brokered convention while in the national--and perhaps even global--spotlight.

Hopefully it will be as hilarious and awesome as I'm anticipating.

[Crosses fingers.]
