| coco ebert I thought most of Texas was already trying to get Hispanic people to disappear. |
||
| TheBeastOfYuccaFlats I've always thought it was terribly unjust that only kids named Amber got a system that alerts people if they go missing. |
||
| GAT_00
Texas? Yeah, I'm sure there's no bias, not at ALL. Texans are never racist, especially not basically the entire state government. |
||
| gopher321 Time to call the Amber-lamps, huh? |
||
| Di Atribe Did any of you read to the end of the article? The Amber Alert lady said that most Amber Alerts were issued for non-caucasian children. I know that's harder than just assuming that everyone in Texas is a racist, but seriously, just read to the end. It's not a long article. |
||

White hispanic or brown hispanic? Cause if it's white hispanic, it counts as human. |

| Linoleum_Blownapart The Amber Alert system is not to be used for custody disputes pppppptttthhPpppttt. Ha! almost said it with a straight face. |

Have you checked with Immigration? They might have been deported and you just didn't notice. |

Di Atribe: Did any of you read to the end of the article? The Amber Alert lady said that most Amber Alerts were issued for non-caucasian children. I know that's harder than just assuming that everyone in Texas is a racist, but seriously, just read to the end. It's not a long article. The fact that it tends to be issued for non-whites most of the time is racist. It means that only minority children go missing. |

The four children went missing after their father threw their mother out of the family vehicle, and then led police on a high-speed chase before disappearing with the kids. Still, police did not issue an AMBER Alert for them. In fact, no alert was issued at all for two full days. The children were eventually returned unharmed over the weekend, though the father remains on the loose --- About half of the roughly 800,000 missing juvenile cases in 2001 involved runaways, and another 200,000 were classified as family abductions related to domestic or custody disputes. Only about 100 missing-child reports each year fit the profile of a stereotypical abduction by a stranger or vague acquaintance. Two-thirds of those victims are ages 12 to 17, and among those eight out of 10 are white females, according to a Justice Department study. Nearly 90 percent of the abductors are men, and they sexually assault their victims in half of the cases. Pasqualini said the media tends to focus on "damsels in distress"-typically, affluent young white women and teenagers. The media's dilemma is that government research shows that victims of nonfamily abductions and stereotypical kidnappings are most at risk of injury, sexual assault or death. "Damsel" cases may be the exception, but they often are the most urgent. (new window) |

man, police give a hispanic guy a pass for months after killing a teenager in cold blood and they STILL want more? Sheesh |
||
| ausfahrk
The knew the kids would be safe because serial killers are all white. |
||
| Big Man On Campus
Amber alerts should be reserved for black children, they're harder to spot at night and need the extra eyes searching for them. |
||
| Red Shirt Blues But LULAC's Baldamero Garza wants to know whether police would have acted the same if the kids were white instead of Hispanic? "Is it immediately important to the officer on the scene if it's this person, yes let's light the fire?" Garza asks. "But if it's this other group, oh that's just the usual, they'll be fine by this afternoon, and it's not a problem." "Maybe it's something that we have to look at and see whether it really works for the Hispanic population in terms of what it should be doing," he says. La Derpa |

The fact that it tends to be issued for non-whites most of the time is racist. It means that only minority children go missing. I'm from Texas, and Hispanic, so yeah, I speak for all of them out here when I say: Well, of course it's mostly minorities for Texas AAs, it's usually a case of some shiathead ex-bf or husband that steals the kid from the mother's parents (since she is hardly around to raise the kid herself). Yeah, I'm trolling, but fark it, I'm in a trolling mood. |

The Amber alerts I've seen in CA tend to be the "Abducted in Sacramento, last seen near Coalinga, believed to be heading to Mexico" variety. I assume this is a local Texas problem. |

Okieboy: Can someone repost some details - Federal firewall won't let me rtfa Father abduction. Returned unharmed. The stereotypical abduction of a juvenile by stranger are the ones at the greatest risk of sexual abuse and death. |

| Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom Ftfa AMBER Alert; well over half of them have been issued for non-white children. It's probably closer to 60% So its racist that amber alerts aren't issued at a lower rate for non-whites, yet when that's shown to be factually inaccurate, its racist because it suggests minorities lose their kids at a higher rate than whites. It's almost like some people just want to believe that the US is racist, regardless of the facts. Hmm... |

UMBERTO ALERT! |

I thought that Hispanics were White. So the real outrage should be that white kids went missing and we didn't sound the alarm. |

"But if it's this other group, oh that's just the usual, they'll be fine by this afternoon, and it's not a problem." Uhmmm. They WERE fine by that afternoon. If you are going to get all indignant, maybe you should've used a better case example. |

Although, this presupposes all minorities are in one minority super category ... so, if we do the break down what percentage is white v black v hispanics v asian (I know I'm leaving some out). Not sure I have ever seen an Amber Arert. So right there is proof of racism towards one group not even mentioned - or - those kids just never get kidnapped. Which makes sense. The world has so many of that model on the market for cheap. Why go through the hassle of stealing one? |

I'd be hesitant to sound the amber alert for a father taking his kids... You know, at all. Sounds like a routine case of mom and dad fighting. I don't need a Swackett alert about someones marital problems. Now, had the other person been a babysitter or random stranger, yeah, sound the alarm. AND yeah, why aren't we seeing more amber alerts for non-white people? With a 38% Hispanic population in Texas, I mean, come on. But in this instance, I don't get why they would do one at all. |

OMG. This is an outrage. Tomatoes will be $20 a piece by the end of the week. |
||
| factoryconnection FinFangFark: Well, of course it's mostly minorities for Texas AAs, it's usually a case of some shiathead ex-bf or husband that steals the kid from the mother's parents (since she is hardly around to raise the kid herself). I saw one on Thursday as I was driving through TN for children taken from their custodial guardians by their non-custodial parents. The father in question was 6'4" and 225lb... they didn't need to tell me "do not intervene, just call the TBI!" Regardless, the nasty things that go down in broken and/or junkie families with regards to their kids will make your head spin. |
||
| MadMattressMack
On the radio here in Houston after the chase happened they quoted the Amber Alert officials as saying they could not issue the alert. Legally, the father had the rights to the children so there was nothing they could do. Amber Alerts are only for missing children. Everyone knew where they were. They were legally with their father as he hadn't lost rights to them yet. You can't just issue Amber Alerts for the hell of it and race had nothing to do it. |

Okieboy: Can someone repost some details - Federal firewall won't let me rtfa There doesn't seem to be many details...the entire story as posted is: "The four children went missing after their father threw their mother out of the family vehicle, and then led police on a high-speed chase before disappearing with the kids. Still, police did not issue an AMBER Alert for them. In fact, no alert was issued at all for two full days. The children were eventually returned unharmed over the weekend, though the father remains on the loose. " And then a bunch of complaining that 60% of Amber Alerts isn't good enough for hispanics; that Hispanics need to strive for a higher percentage or something. As presented, there aren't enough details in the story to warrant an Amber Alert at the time of the "abduction", given that there is no indication in the story that the husband was attempting a kidnapping, and a plausible reason could just be an argument between the husband and wife. |

Did they find them? Yes. So who cares? |

They did issue the warning, but after a two days delay. The hispanic dude does kind of have a point if a caucasian girl would have meant that the amber alert would go out without a delay. |
||

I thought Amber Alerts were just for suspected stranger abductions. They KNEW the father took them in this case, fathers are far less likely to molest or kill than strangers. If we had Amber Alerts for every familial abduction, there wouldn't be anything else on TV. |

GAT_00: Texas? Yeah, I'm sure there's no bias, not at ALL. Texans are never racist, especially not basically the entire state government. Racism is almost as stupid as ascribing a racist ideology to people based solely on where they live. Almost. |

That means they get all of the drawbacks that entails, including the fact that it is impossible to be racist against them. |

Joke's on all y'all. From what I understand, Amber alerts do absolutely squat to help find missing children anyway. |
