| Fear_and_Loathing That looks pretty interesting. |

| Rincewind53 Read Ebert's review of this, and I really want to see it. But then I'll hit reality and realize that I cannot spend $100 on a sushi meal. |

Rincewind53: Read Ebert's review of this, and I really want to see it. But then I'll hit reality and realize that I cannot spend $100 on a sushi meal. I would drop $100 just for the privilege of dropping more than that on a perfect meal, conducted and performed by the world's best chef for any type of food. The fact that it's sushi only wants to make me do it that much more. |

I know it's their culture, but I find it kinda unsettling the way he states his son 'has' to prepare sushi the rest of his life. nttawwt, i'd eat sushi everyday if i could |

It's like one of those families who have been making violins for centuries and then the last son decides to be an accountant. While children have their own dreams, something is lost when they don't pick up where their parents left off. Like i said, I wouldn't want to force my kids into a career, but I understand why you would. |

The son should become an investment banker, and fund Bento Sushi (or some other "McDonald's"-of-sushi fast food franchise). Then wrap his dad in copper wire & magnets and have a free source of perpetual electricity generation when his dad spins in his grave. |

But his second son has to open his own restaurant, since the eldest inherits Jiro's restaurant. There definitely seems to be some regret in both the sons, but also pride that their father is who he is. It's a really interesting movie. |

See, judging by just the trailer someone might find it unsettling. I'm sure the film goes much further into it. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. |

Lovely. True artistry. By David Gelb. I wonder if he's any relation to Peter Gelb. |

you're supposed to rhyme 'rest' with 'best' subby. |

Subby frequents Reddit as much as Fark, I see. |

This man is a technician of Sushi. Customers must call him "Taisho." Taisho always have a secret personal history. / You should never ask about this |

I expected to see something a little more... betterer than that. I mean, shiat, from what I saw on the video, I can get better at the local farkin' china buffet. Not saying that the buffet is better than what this Jap is spewing, but, shiat, you know? |

I hate how expensive sushi is, but when you see how much training goes into some of these chefs, and even when they're good, it's a lot of work to prepare some of that stuff. When you see a guy take a cucumber, and slice a paper thin layer around the circumference, and use that paper thin cucumber sheet to make the outside roll, your mind is boggled (how the hell did he do that, how does he not break it, or cut into his hand?) With that said though, with japan's water going nuclear from that reactor failing, and half of the gulf's seafood dying or mutating from the BP oil spill chemical cleanup, makes me not want to eat raw fish anymore (we effed up this planet) |

I still haven't tried any sushi.... I wish they'd offer a sampler platter or suggest something to ease you into it... I know there's more to it than just raw fish - but I'm a very 'meat-n-taters' guy so it may take me a while to find the right dish for me... |

Look for anything with tempura 'something', usually shrimp, as the main ingredient. It's fried, not raw, so it's a good starter. |

It is cooked usually topped with a sweet sauce. |

Japs are so particular about their sushi. Ask for a California roll in his restaurant and see him have a heart attack on the spot. We used to really enjoy giving Japs conniption fits by making sushi with beef and kimchee when we lived there. Much prefer sushi outside Japan. And much prefer sushi I make myself (very very easy). |

| relaxitsjustme I just saw this movie today so I am really getting a kick etc etc. I would definitely say the movie is worth the little less than 90 minutes it takes to watch it. It's pretty interesting and the dude is better at being a sushi chef than I (and most likely you) will ever be at anything in our lives. |
