That was cool. Also, they might want to find a larger practice space. Unless the kitchen just has awesome acoustics or something.

Yep. She looked and sounded completely lost once they got to the vocals.
"Strangling the cat" as it were.

Meh. Better in concept than execution. Would have preferred to see "I Zimbra" or "Heaven" done in that style.

BTW, do you know that there's a film where Sean Penn plays a retired 50-something Emo rocker hunting a Nazi war criminal that uses the song title for the movie? And that David Byrne appears as himself in it?

I'm not making this up.

Was intrigued until I saw it was Hipster Douche-bags covering Talking Heads on Chinese instruments. That's a no-brainer.

It's an Urhu.

Wife got me one on her trip to China with the family. She got her brother some awesome meat cleavers. Every time I see or hear that instrument I get pissed.

/It looks nice hanging on the wall.

There is an old asian guy that "plays" one of those at the Embarcadaro BART station. Every time I hear it I cringe, they just don't sound good no matter what.

For some reason, to this untrained ear, those always sound like they're out of tune.

Time to pop the Stop Making Sense DVD in again.

I didn't know the upright acoustic bass is a traditional Chinese instrument. The musicians look like typical nerdy college music students more than hipsters.

Is it just me or does Sean Penn look kinda like Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs"?

Now THAT's how it's done. Nobody rubs on the funk like the Heads.

That said, as much as I wanted to like it, subby's video was kinda weak. Hipster nonsense.

Stand up bass has been a part of ancient Chinese music for years. . .who knew.

No bass, unless it is Earnest T. Bass.

My wife plays Erhu, and if you actually learn how to play it correctly, it sounds amazing. How good does a violin sound in the hands of a beginner?

This is how it's played

Amazing Mongolian Horse Racing played by an 8 year old.

It's not the sound - it's that (although I am decent at the ones I have) I don't have the time or energy to get really proficient, let alone learn from scratch another musical instrument.

I guess it would be like if I got her, I don't know, a cookware set for our anniversary and then saying 'You can make some awesome things with this!'.
