| cman Of all the things that could have been wrong it gets tossed on this? Its farking inconsequential. Its not like a comma was left out that could change its whole meaning. Its not like there was a sentence in the petition that could be misread. This is an attack on the spirit of Democracy |
||
| Precious Roy's Horse Dividers Wow that is pretty farked up. Wonder how the derp brigade will spin and defend this one? |
||
| Aar1012 I'm betting the sale of pitchforks and torches will be increasing m in Michigan |
||
| FlashHarry you have GOT to be kidding me. i hope local media picks this up and runs with it. farking republicans. jesus christ. |
||
| Paris1127 At least they didn't criticize the actual font used... I'm sure they were expecting Comic Sans or Papyrus and were disappointed. |
||
NuttierThanEver ![]() Well they are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. |

Keep voting Republican, Michigan. After all, they protect the Constitution, doncha know. |
||
| Elandriel Can't they appeal this to the courts? 200,000 signatures is no small feat. |
||
| Philip Francis Queeg
Scott Walker is saying "Why the fark didn't I think of that?" right now. |
||
| Diogenes How spectacularly transparent. The best principled opposition the Koch brothers can buy! |

What public servants. |

Oh c'mon, who the hell didn't see this coming? |

Elandriel: Can't they appeal this to the courts? 200,000 signatures is no small feat. Yeah, article says this is going to Appeals Court. I'm sure it will be overturned. |
||
| Rann Xerox And if the font excuse didn't work, the GOP would have complained about the bad kerning. |
||
| qorkfiend
It's not even the entire petition. FTA: Republicans on the board supported a challenge seeking to disqualify them over one section's font size. |
||
| IrateShadow
Which state was it that was issuing forms for something and then rejecting all requests outright because the forms were on paper with the wrong weight? This is almost as bad. |

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: Wow that is pretty farked up. Wonder how the derp brigade will spin and defend this one? from the comments: "They didn't follow the law, and they didn't get the petition approved before collecting signatures, which would have caught this violation of the law in time for it to be remedied. They have no one to blame but themselves." |
||

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: Wow that is pretty farked up. Wonder how the derp brigade will spin and defend this one? Rules! We've got some rules around here. Second shelf is mine. That's where I keep my root beers and double thick oreo cookies. Nobody touches the second shelf but me. There's another rule around here and I want you to pay close attention, never use a font smaller than 10 points. I can't read it with these drug store glasses and my magnifying glass is broken. |
||
| mrmyxolodian
I doubt it will be upheld, but wow. Just wow. If anything the ruling could motivate Dems to turn out in full force in November. /Silver lining and all that... |

i feel sorry for those 15 dudes that spent hours and hours making up new names to sign. |
||
| Psylence
Democracy for sale! SOLD! |
||
| WizardofToast The font's too small. There are too many names on this petition. I'm hungry. It's too hot in here. Work is hard. |
||
| Lost Thought 00 Either you represent your people fairly, or your people will murder you. There are really only 2 options. |

MindStalker: Elandriel: Can't they appeal this to the courts? 200,000 signatures is no small feat. Yeah, article says this is going to Appeals Court. I'm sure it will be overturned. Don't be so sure. It depends on which 3 of the 28 judges on the Court get the case. If it's 2-1 Republican then don't hold your breath. And if it goes to the (elected, republican majority) State Supreme Court we all know how those partisan hacks will decide. It sucks, but the judiciary in Michigan is pretty piss poor. |
||
| Wendy's Chili First they took away the people's representation and now they're blocking attempts to restore that representation through the democratic process. I usually think people are stupid or crazy when they talk about armed revolts, but those guys are leaving little recourse for the citizens that they're "emergency managing". |

Haven't read the article, so I don't know if it mentioned that one of the two Republicans who voted to reject the petition is a partner in the firm advocating before him to reject the petition. |

If you are going to use technicalities to get what you want, get them right. |

Paris1127: At least they didn't criticize the actual font used... I'm sure they were expecting Comic Sans or Papyrus and were disappointed. I am going to pass out a petition done in wingdings. |

I don't really have an issue with emergency managers. If the state is supporting these municipalities they have a duty to all the taxpayers of the state to make sure the funds are used appropriately but FFS, this isn't the answer. /the answer is to stop funding the municipalities |

| MessyDwarf
This must be the reason Republicans ignore the Constitution, the irregular font size invalidates it for them. |
||
| qorkfiend
bugontherug: Haven't read the article, so I don't know if it mentioned that one of the two Republicans who voted to reject the petition is a partner in the firm advocating before him to reject the petition. No, I don't believe it did. I feel only pity for the citizens of Michigan. |

youfoundthekingbaby: i feel sorry for those 15 dudes that spent hours and hours making up new names to sign. The minimum 14 point font size requirement is to assist in the preservation of their sight during those hours of labor. |

Out of curiosity, is there any sort of vetting process for petitions before you go out and try to get people to sign them? I mean, can you submit it to the board and ask them to rule if your petition format is valid or has any problems? |

The printer of the petitions supposedly signed an affadavit affirming that the font was 14-point. So who gets to measure? |

Let's take the one branch that is supposed to be immune to political pressure and make them as corruptible as legislators and subject to the whims of public opinion! |

Weaver95: And then Republicans wonder why nobody votes for them anymore... Yeah, just look at the current make up of the house of representatives. |
||
| QU!RK1019
But both sides are bad, right? Democrats do this in all the states they control. |
