It's about Putin, right? (after RTFA) Awwwww yeah. |

If you think constructing a facade of masculinity via staged photos really counts as badass, go for it. |

Putin...Vlad Putin I like my Matrini's like my people, shaken not stirred. |
||
| Voiceofreason01 HA, AK-47 isn't a submachine gun! /As Putin gets older he gets more and more like your creepy old uncle that you're parents wouldn't ever leave you alone with |
||

Why in the hell does he have one eye closed? And even more so, why in the hell is he aiming an AK-47? When I was in foreign firearm combat training, the AK-47 had a notorious reputation for back-ejecting rounds. If you put your face that close, you would likely get an eye burned out. Nice try on the bad ass photo shoot, but anyone with any experience in weapons training knows its a farce. |

Would Obama be caught dead firing an assault rifle(or even a handgun for that matter, and a fake one at that, given the article) at a range? He'd be crucified by the authoritarian left and the anti-gun moralists. |

He's rearing his head! Watch out Alaska! |

I would have more respect for Obama if he tried plinking targets. It's fun, and anyone can do it. To do it well requires lots of practice. Putin is interesting. It is cool to see a guy in the world stage not take himself fi seriously. |

Voiceofreason01: AK-47 isn't a submachine gun! Why can't these people get guns straight? reporterandguns.jpeg or whatever. |

noob. He should be using a silenced mp7 with rapid fire or quick scoping with a heartbeat sensor barret .50. If he is dead set on using ARs the type-95 drops people with one burst. |

Good comrade subby, keep toting the line. |

During the Clinton scandal, I remember a Russian acquaintance telling me he didn't understand the fuss. He felt we Americans needed to remember the job is President not Priest. Looking at Russia's weird obsession with Putin's "manliness", I wish I could remind him the job is for Commander in Chief, not Commando in Chief. |

The same thing doesn't work for every country, and Russia seems to require a bit of an authoritarian flavor to it to keep it in order. It's flourished under Putin, that's for sure. |

This is olde-thyme soviet image and mythmaking at it's best. It's like the good old days! Now THIS is a James Bond impression. This is widely thought to be Putin as a KGB agent back in the day. If it isn't, the guy is a dead ringer for him. |

Wyldfire: I just want to know who the blond is behind him. Putin always seems to have pretty girls following him around. /it's good to be in charge |

| Magorn Umm No. Putin is very good at staging photo-ops that make him LOOK badass but in reality? No so much? That "wild tiger" he helped tranquilize? It was a tame stand in from the Zoo brought out there specifically so Putin could pose with it and that shot with the AK-47? See how he's got one eye closed? No marksman worth thier salt does that. It's a rookie mistake |

History will show that he was the real great hero of the Cold War and his will made Russia the functioning democracy it is today. I could not agree more. As an American, I do not trust the guy, but I do not believe he would do anything foolish. I just wish Russia would get on board containing Iran. For them it would be a win win. Less nukes in the middle east the better. They would also make China work with them when the Chineese decide to develop Africa. So improve relations with the US and place a check on China. |

turntable slave: If you think constructing a facade of masculinity via staged photos really counts as badass, go for it. A couple of years ago I was in Saint Petersburg when our fixer asked if we wanted to see Putin as he was in town. I figure we would be standing outside a hotel and wave as he walked in but we drove to a nice cottage out side the city and knocked on the door. Putin himself answered dressed like June Cleaver - a nice conservative frock, three inch mules and light make-up, very classy. We spent a few hours talking and having tea and sesame cakes. So yeah Putin has a macho side but he has a softer side too. |

| MythDragon ...of Russian President-elect Vladimir Putin aiming an AK-47 submachine-gun in an electronic shooting gallery So he is so rich he can shoot up electronics now, while his people starve? He makes me sick. /Literally. He spiked my sushi with polonium. |

Yeah, nothing more manly and sexy than a murderous corrupt oligarch staging photos to drum up support from the rubes. It's like Bush in a flightsuit, but with handing out polonium sandwiches for lunch and jailing wealthy political opponents on trumped up charges. What a hunk! |

fireclown: Whatthefark: I want to see it just to watch the heads of right wingers explode. Agreed. It would be worth it to see the resulting confusion. I'm conservative, but I don't mind Obama. He's been willing to compromise, he's decisive when he wants to be, and he's willing to call people out. Can't ask for too much more in a president(other than shooting guns and posing barechested with thousand dollar sunglasses while holding a bear carcass) |

That's not an AK-47. It's an AK-74 and it's a replica. |

Churchill drank a quart of brandy a day, smoked at least 20 cigars a day, was brilliant AND a tough bastard to boot. He lived to damn near 90, and his mom slept with most of the important people in England and then married a man 16 days younger then her son. What has Putin done besides take his shirt off and pretend to be a bad ass. |

Plexo: That's not an AK-47. It's an AK-74 and it's a replica. Is it true the Russian armed forces have stopped buying them (i.e. subsidizing them) because they have too many rifles on their hands and nothing to do with them now? |
