Leaders of an insular religious commune are under investigation by authorities for extensive child abuse... in Waco. This is not a repeat from 1993

Anytime I read the words "revered as a model of Christian values", I know for sure that there's a nasty child/sex/financial abuse scandal about to rear its ugly head.

At least the Catholic Church doesn't set buildings on fire. They're all about facilitating child abuse, but at least they don't set stuff ablaze.

If there is no god, then people will have to be responsible for what they do and they'll have no way to atone for the harm they cause on this planet.

That's why so many terrible people are so terribly religious.

The article says they've been around for 20 years, I wonder if they were the remnants of the Branch Davidians or some sort of offshoot. It seems like the leader is pulling a bunch of the same shiat Koresh did.

It appeared that way to me too. Those people didn't mean anything to him, he'd have no problem killing them.

A primer on how to neutralize any entity in the united states of America. Simply accuse the entity of child abuse/terrorism. No trial just an accusation will do.

Think about the FBI story for a minute.

Their claim is they heard the Davidians were prepping to burn the place down and then their response was to punch holes in the building and spray in flammable tear gas.

Does that really make any sense at all?

Are you saying they did something stupid, or that the FBI burned the place down? I don't remember all the details, but if Koresh was going to burn the place down, why not try tear gas? Weren't they just trying to get the kids out if they could, and fark everybody else if they didn't come?

I didn't really fault them for that. I thought then, and still mostly do, that if the cops tell you to do something, you just do it and argue it about later. Or else you might end up dead. And so they did.

Read the timeline they have of the FBI tapes. It shows the fires started in 3 different parts of the compound simultaneously and they started well after the tear gas had been used.

The way I see it, the Branch Davidians were an apocalyptic sect who were ready to go at any time at the word of Koresh - maybe they hadn't planned to go at the beginning of the siege, but by the end Koresh was ready to go up in flames. The BATF simply made things worse by using flammable flash-bangs and tear gas. Basically a cock-up by all sides, and a situation that was about 95% likely to end badly.

No they actually used known-to-be incendiary tear gas grenades(it's in the instruction booklet that comes in the package with them). The Texas Rangers found them during their forensic investigation. They were later found in an evidence locker deliberately mislabeled "silencer parts." Then there's the FLIR footage that proves the guys pulling triggers during the final siege were shooting at anyone trying to escape. And then there's the best part, the roof of the concrete bunker was blown in with a shaped charge. That's where they found what was left of most of the kids.

I think Bill Hicks put it best:

"They burned these farking people alive. The message they want to convey to you is, state power will always win. We'll paint you as a child molester. We'll paint you as a meth amphetamine manufacturer. We'll say any lie we want over our propaganda machine - the mainstream media - and we'll burn you and your children in your farking home. You stay apathetic, you stay docile, and don't you ever forget, you're free... to do what we tell you."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywDAUz kHybU

*Bill makes mention of Bradley tanks using flamethrowers. That actually HAS been completely disproven.

Why are we rehashing Waco, when all that's going on so far here is that they're investigating allegations of child abuse?

As I recall from the Waco debacle, the ATF went in on a weapons warrant, and the child abuse allegations were tossed in afterwards to ensure people really hated the Branch Davidians. There's so far zero evidence here that these folks even have ANY weapons.

But pay no attention to the reasonable hawk flying overhead.
