There aren't enough parents who take this route, imo. |

| Frederick The My Little Pony Killer: There aren't enough parents who take this route, imo. Idk... I have a hard time supporting negative reinforcement (shaming) as a punishment or motivation. I wouldnt do that with my children -not that I'd need to. The reporter could have included in the article what the actual offense was.... |

The parents certainly started her out on the right tone by naming her Quandria. /many teenagers do have a crappy attitude - not news |

| serial_crusher Frederick: I have a hard time supporting negative reinforcement (shaming) as a punishment or motivation. I wouldnt do that with my children -not that I'd need to. Yeah, if you want to teach kids to be thankful when people do nice things for them, you need to put them in a situation where they're being nice to somebody who acts like a dick about it. Thinking back to my own childhood experiences, making her serve food at a Moose Lodge would fit the bill nicely. / Those farking old people. Look, it's just my job to hand out the pudding. I can't help that they ran out of chocolate. Get over it. |

Obviously her parents have been in a Quandria over her behavior. |
||
| dugitman Frederick: The reporter could have included in the article what the actual offense was.... FTFA: Quandria, who'd recently been suspended from New Bern High School... Probably can't talk about the offense for minor privacy/confidentiality stuff. |

Missing 15-year-old story in 3...2... |
||
| Somacandra Should've had a sign that said "I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt." |
||
| Mugato Well that's one way to create a drug addicted prostitute. |
||
| MaudlinMutantMollusk She should make her own sign that reads: MY PARENTS NAMED ME QUANDRIA! YOU'RE DAMNED RIGHT I HAVE A BAD ATTITUDE! |
||
| Adolf Oliver Nipples The My Little Pony Killer: There aren't enough parents who take this route, imo. I give it a few days until CPS comes to take the child away for the abuse that was inflicted upon her. Remember, everybody knows better than you how to parent your child. |

Frederick: I have a hard time supporting negative reinforcement (shaming) as a punishment or motivation. Modern people have more or less lost their masculine side, so it's not surprising. Just sad. |
||
| shanrick Someone should point out that she was named Quandria. |

Yeah, 15. What else? |

| Four Horsemen of the Domestic Dispute
shanrick: Someone should point out that she was named Quandria. Somebody did - a few posts ago. Quandria was conceived in the back of an 82 Oldsmobile. The parents were in a Quandria after the police car pulled up. That's how she got the name. |

Not too much different that blowing holes into your daughter's lappy then letting it go viral. /yay negative reinforcement, they won't resent you much for that in the long-term |

| mhuckins I love these stories! In my day, one simply got the belt for backtalk. Public humiliation seems like an okay alternative! |

Ok, great, but what if the girl didn't obey her father? Nothing he could do. Wonder what got her to comply with the punishment. |
||
| BronyMedic
Should be done more often, in my opinion. A little public humiliation is good for knocking out unwarrented self-importance in teenagers. Need more parents smashing laptops and defacing facebook pages, too. |

Trying to instill shame is a poor way to teach. Better that they would have had him perform charity/volunteer work for x hours. |

| Great Justice
I can barely quantify what a quandary the name Quandria is. /Quandria sounds like something out of bad fiction. What should I name my protragonist who is always getting into quandaries? Quandria! |

MaudlinMutantMollusk: She should make her own sign that reads: MY PARENTS NAMED ME QUANDRIA! YOU'RE DAMNED RIGHT I HAVE A BAD ATTITUDE! Or perhaps the father should be forced to pace up and down the road with a sign reading, "I named my child Quandria. Honk if you think I'm a dumbass" |
||
| cookiefleck CasperImproved: Trying to instill shame is a poor way to teach. Better that they would have had him perform charity/volunteer work for x hours. The kid would biatch and moan and do a half-assed job as quick as possible and learn nothing in the end. But it's a lovely sentiment. |

CasperImproved: Trying to instill shame is a poor way to teach. Better that they would have had him perform charity/volunteer work for x hours. Yep, wouldn't want to make these precious snowflakes feel ashamed for acting shamefully. That's an icky emotion that has no place in these infallible youngsters. |
||
| Somacandra LeroyBourne: they won't resent you much for that in the long-term ![]() I'm inclined to think if there isn't at least some resentment against your parents for disciplining you, you probably aren't successfully socialized. You need your resentment as proof of your agency and willpower, and you also need your discipline to know when it needs to be controlled and harnessed. Virtue is a often a mean between two extremes of vice and people need training to condition the conscience to act toward the mean in the absence of immediate external authorities. Resentment against your parents is not evidence per se of bad parenting. |

Increase the amount of hours for biatching and moaning, and for half-assed jobbery, but I agree. |

"my parents failed me and all I got was this stupid sign" My 14 year old tells me to DIAF pretty regularly. The parents will get over it. |

Frederick: The reporter could have included in the article what the actual offense was.... Yeah, but then they'd have to talk to her parents and ask questions. Reporters can't be bothered to do that these days, gotta get the stories out and printed for the page clicks, dontchaknow. |

The reporter could have included in the article what the actual offense was.... i agree with you and i hate to split hairs but that's not what negative reinforcement is. Negative reinforcement is removing an aversive stimulus in order to reinforce a desired behaviour. A dog doesn't get choked when he walks properly on a leash. This is more like positive punishment: adding an aversive stimulus to decrease a particular behaviour. Whatever it's called i don't think i would do this to my kids either. but who knows? the lack of details in the article was definitely irritating... |

cookiefleck: Joshudan: "my parents failed me and all I got was this stupid sign" My 14 year old tells me to DIAF pretty regularly. The parents will get over it. Sounds like your kid is the one needing to "get over it". Meh, he's 14. Pretty much every response is disrespectful. As long as it is aimed at us and not teachers/strangers/police officers, whatever. Suspensions also happen to teenagers. If you aren't getting in trouble in HS you're doing it wrong. How many Fark articles are about school suspensions of teens? 80% are for stupid shiat that all teens do. |
