Those were some surprisingly intelligent comments after the article. I'm more used to seeing things like "Their just birds! The feds care more about birds then people getting back to work, welcome to 0bama's Amerikkka, libtards! Enoy your welcare checks" |

Maybe if the bird evolved into something less delicious, people wouldn't hunt them so often. God, I haven't had grouse in years. Mmmmmmmmm. |

| Smeggy Smurf You mean it's being planted in areas that it doesn't live and then murdered by ecoterrorists? |

So does this mean that a few years after some industry is destroyed and thousands of people lose their jobs and homes to "save" this bird, they'll find these things living well in many other places and protection of their habitat wasn't really necessary to their survival? |

Is it because people there are actually nicer, or is it that the SL Trib actually enforces its "don't be an ass" policy in the comments? |

No. It's sagebrush loss. Sage loss is pretty widespread, and isn't due to any one industry or cause. In one place it could be overgrazing, in another it could be clearing for housing developments. The sage grouse has been protected for quite some time and it isn't overhunted to any great degree, so habitat loss is actually a cause for concern--several other species of grouse are also in danger in Western states for the same reason. |

Sometimes they disable comments all together if the topic is "too hot." |

I live along the Green River and can tell you there is no shortage of sagebrush. Have noticed there are a few less grouse, but still see them often enough. Friend hunts them and, aside from young hens, they don't taste very good at all /2 cents |

I wonder how much of the population loss might be due to the adaptation of coyotes to urban living? /ponders |
