| Walker I love how the US is one of the last countries to be able to see the movie. What a slap in the face. Countries that will see The Avengers before the US: Australia 25 April 2012 Belgium 25 April 2012 France 25 April 2012 Italy 25 April 2012 Netherlands 25 April 2012 New Zealand 25 April 2012 Philippines 25 April 2012 Portugal 25 April 2012 Taiwan 25 April 2012 Argentina 26 April 2012 Chile 26 April 2012 Denmark 26 April 2012 Dominican Republic 26 April 2012 Germany 26 April 2012 Greece 26 April 2012 Hong Kong 26 April 2012 Hungary 26 April 2012 Ireland 26 April 2012 Peru 26 April 2012 South Korea 26 April 2012 UK 26 April 2012 Brazil 27 April 2012 Colombia 27 April 2012 Costa Rica 27 April 2012 Finland 27 April 2012 Guatemala 27 April 2012 Iceland 27 April 2012 India 27 April 2012 Mexico 27 April 2012 Norway 27 April 2012 Panama 27 April 2012 Paraguay 27 April 2012 Spain 27 April 2012 Sweden 27 April 2012 Vietnam 27 April 2012 Latvia 1 May 2012 Singapore 1 May 2012 Thailand 1 May 2012 |

| Mr. Coffee Nerves That's the great thing about digital effects -- in the showing in Paris everyone was cheering on the shield-slinging Captain France. Add in Black Widow's armpit hair, the Hulk's beret and Iron Man's cigarette dispenser and we're talking blockbuster! |

Walker: I love how the US is one of the last countries to be able to see the movie. What a slap in the face. Countries that will see The Avengers before the US: This is the exact same thing as Battleship, international markets LOVE American movies, and it gets them plenty of buzz to convince meh domestic customers to go see it, and I doubt it increases the chance of fraudulent distribution much. It's probably higher overseas anyway, so this could reduce it. I think we're going to see this more and more for big releases. |
||
| Confabulat It was only a couple of years ago that it would have been unimaginable for a giant tentpole summer blockbuster to be released almost last in the USA. Things have changed. |

texdent: Walker: Latvia Everytime I see this country, I want to say Latveria I've always associated Latveria with the Hoxha regime in Albania. That isolation,totalitarianism and primitive technology is what I think of when I see the Latverian countryside portrayed. Of course old Envar never had super armor or a castle full of killer robots so the resemblance breaks down there. |

Just got back from seeing it. As superhero movies go, it's pretty damn good. Glad they got someone like Joss Whedon who actually gives a shiat and makes sure there's a proper story and that it's not just a giant effects-fest. Story-wise, I'm not sure it works as well as the 1st Iron Man movie, but there's just so much visual awesomeness that if you like good comic book movies, you really should go. |

| Techhell Well, yeah. Watching the Avengers who are identified as American (Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Hulk) is sort of like a nice little glimpse into America. You have the way that America likes to see itself in Captain America. Noble, humble, heroic, self-sacrificing, polite and honest to a fault. The man you want to follow. This is an America that the world doesn't believe actually exists, or can exist; it's a daydream. Would be nice if it did, though. You have America the way it comes across most often in Iron Man. Rich, egocentric, arrogant, womanizing and dependent on technology to keep him alive, literally. This is the America most of the world see's when American companies come into their country and dictate how the country will treat the company. This America is an ally at times, but all in all not someone you want to put your trust into if you can help it. You have America in the way that some people see it in Hawkeye. Aloof, arrogant, overconfident, subtle and dangerous. You won't see Hawkeye coming at you, or hear his attack, but he'll kill you just the same from the veil of secrecy, darkness and silence. This is the America that conspiracy theorists and anti-American propagandists think of - the America that removes democratic leaders when they oppose America, or sells weapons to rebels who will support America. The America that creates Jason Bourne and sets him loose on the world, moving through foreign countries like fish through water. And you have America the way the world is terrified that it will become in the Hulk. You don't want to make Hulk angry - when Hulk is angry, nothing is safe. There are no allies to the Hulk, only things to smash. All you can do is hope to be lowest on the list of things Hulk will smash, and that he'll get bored or calm down before he gets to you. This is the antithesis of Captain America, and is just as unreal. There's lots to see in an Avengers movie for non-Americans. Particularly non-Americans who are interested in tossing unintentional meanings into things. /can't wait to see it //though does sort of hope that the dialogue and story fall flat, just to be able to stick it to the Browncoats. |

Add in Black Widow's armpit hair, the Hulk's beret and Iron Man's cigarette dispenser and we're talking blockbuster! See, now I know the actual film will not measure up to this proposal. I wish the studios had the balls to give people like you creative license. I would buy that movie on DVD without having seen it first. I do hope Whedon is back to non-childish not-sucking. I do hope Avengers is a good film. The first two Iron Man films give me enough hope to say so. |

You know there are ways to see it in the US already.... not saying it's Pirated. But it's pirated. And Joss couldn't help his incessant need to always kill one of the good guys. Will save the Snape Killed Dumbledore spoilerage for someone else. I'll just go tend to the dust in my eyes... |

Walker: I love how the US is one of the last countries to be able to see the movie. What a slap in the face. Countries that will see The Avengers before the US: Yeah, what a slap in the face that an entire planet gets to see a film before 1 country. Wow. Seriously, stop breaking Wheaton's law. I live in Malta, we got the Avengers 3 days ago and I went to see it and appreciated it thoroughly. The other 51 weeks of the year, I have to put up with not being able to see a lot of films I want in the cinema because they'll either not be distributed in Europe, not picked up by the local distribution company, or won't play long enough because we're a small country and only huge blockbusters really get long runs at our cinemas. Other times, we just get the movie a few weeks or even months later. Like A Dangerous Method which hasn't even been released here. So boo-friggin-hoo, you have to wait a week for an awesome film. I have to put up with being a cinephile in a country with a normally atrocious scheduling for film release. Stop being so entitled. |

Saw it today - was definitely worth the ticket price as far as summer blockbusters go. Can definitely see the Whedonisms in it, though I think someone had him tone them down. Hawkeye was boring as a character, Black Widow got plenty of screen time, and not 100% sold on Hulk's development. But definitely a solid film. And if you like the 3D gimmick - I thought it was well done in this movie (the show time worked out, as I'd planned on seeing it in 2D) Also - stay for the credits. (though the rumoured extra scene filmed at the premiere isn't in the UK release... I might have to go again to see it when I get back home to see the NA version). |

Walker: Do you really think someone sitting in Bumfark, Idaho was debating whether to see "The Avengers" then took a look at the overnight grosses from Slovenia and said "If Slovenians say it's good it must be good! I'm gonna see it now!" It seems more likely that someone in Slovenia (and other countries) might pass on it if the movie is panned by US critics and moviegoers -- which is a huge risk when it comes to comic book movies -- than someone in Idaho skipping it because Miroslav didn't like it. I certainly don't see The Avengers tanking -- it has too much going for it -- but in case it does disappoint, Marvel is doing a smart thing by releasing it in markets that don't have the same sense of entitlement ... ... especially among the very vocal nerd demographic, that seemingly forgets that: (A) we're getting an Avengers movie that makes its characters' movies part of a continuity (that's f*cking HUGE), (B) we've got the technology and talent to make comic books into plausible and entertaining live action movies, and (C) those movies are popular and lucrative enough with the general public that we can get good comic book movies out of Batman, Iron Man, etc. |

That's the interesting thing I find with the listed dates: American's in general do not understand the role of a global economy. It's usually an 'us first' attitude. On one side, from a marketing perspective this is a good thing. It's easy to take advantage of. On the other side, introducing an American comic book movie over seas first will cause an increased desire for us to see it, due to the fact that someone else already had the chance. /Worked Global Marketing for many years. //Screw you Sanrio. madnessupmysoul: Like A Dangerous Method which hasn't even been released here. Eh, you're not missing much, it's one of Cronenberg's lesser films, although Michael Fassbender gives a very good, if restrained, performance as Jung. On the other hand, Keira Knightley overacts like mad (ha ha), especially in the first act, and Viggo Mortensen doesn't have much to do as Freud. /Knightley does get naked and spanked, though. |
