Kredal: My favorite bit about being a TF'er is seeing all of the headlines that DON'T make it, especially when huge news happens and everyone tries to make with the funny.

So many tickets to hell.

This, the biggest difference is all the headlines that never make it... If one were to aspire to being a regular submitter you might learn something...
TFD can be fun too, if you have a bit of time on your hands... I don't so much, and am jealous of those that do.

I was hoping you'd say that. I put it on last week and haven't found it again since.

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: GAT_00: shivashakti: There's a lot more of the same people in TFD, so the discussions tend to be a lot more respectful. I mean, there's still plenty of snark particularly towards the submitter.

Really? TF seems like a gigantic circle-jerk, much more like high school than anything else.

That's because you seem to hang out in the Politics tab, friendo.

I hang out in Commented.

I forgot to mention that standards are getting kinda lax. When it was time for me to judge the bi-weekly lesbian sex marathon, they sent Kate Beckinsale and Salma Hayek and *shudder* and they had a strand of hair longer than seven inches and their purse straps were a 1/3 too wide. WHAT THE HELL, MAN?!!! I'm a farker and I'm spending 5 bucks. I have standards and it was unacceptable. It was almost as bad as the day I found out someone was enjoying a movie I didn't like.

Because seriously dude, it's $5 a month. Less, if you go for the 6 month or year thingee. I spend more than that on morning coffee every week.

tl;dr, stop being a cheap prick and sign up.

More links. In before the Troll Zerg Rush. Discussions that don't hit the main page but are well worth it because there is a smaller and often more respectful air because the folks who own troll accounts often don't waste cash on accounts that will be put on Ignore after a few stupid posts, so even the folks who are cycling through logins tend to discuss things a bit more openly.

TFD? Once upon a time, it was fun. Less so now, but I'm not who I was when I posted there a lot, so it's not a feature of TFD or that community that changed. There's silliness, there's goofiness, made some friends there--even in the real world. Get involved there, and there's a chance you will see real TFette bewbs in your face, live and in person, if that's your thing. Get involved and you will have a better chance to have beers with Farkers and Farkettes too.

It's a smaller community, and so folks are a bit invested in it. Some of it is trite. Some of it is repetitive. Some of it is cliquey, but that's life.

Upgrade and you see behind the mirror. Don't, and you can live your life just as full as well. Up to you.

I signed up to get in early on the politics tab. Generally we solve all the worlds problems before it hits regular fark and then the whole conversation starts over because people don't want to read about how we already solved it.

True fact, I missed the discussions on redlit threads, and the general over all quality of user comments. That seemed to mostly fall off the cliff once the threads go green. Never had any idea how bad it was, as a 10 year TF'er, til I went lite for a while. Never again.

That's right. After I got TF I started wearing skirts and dresses exclusively. The breeze on my balls has cleared up my fungal rash, and my legs look fantastic in stockings.

yes, but you need to work on the shaving bit. Stockings just make the leg hair stand out. Not to mention skirts look bad with pubes hanging below the hem

greentea1985: If you are on Fark all the time, why not shell out a bit of money to keep the website running?

This is the only reason I can think of, honestly. Granted, it's a good reason, but someone bought me a month long membership for not being a derper in a thread of derp, and while I appreciated the sentiment, I didn't really find myself using TF much. I clicked around in the TF tab some, read some discussion threads, etc, but it never really did much for me.

Obviously, other people's mileage varies, so maybe you'll find that it's the raddest shiat ever.

I originally paid up because I enjoyed the Photoshopping, and waiting until they're greenlighted wasn't an option for me and my slow moving brain and inability to create something good while the thread was still relevant. My brain still moves slow and I lack the ability to create anything good, but the thread is still relevant.

I've been sponsored twice(and thank you to those that sponsored me). It's cool if you're looking to waste time, but mostly it's not worth the money if you're a busy person, IMHO. I think it would be a way to draw people in if you got a free week or something when you hit milestones(like 10 year profile age or something).

I've been here almost 10 years (reading for longer), and the few times I've been gifted TF I haven't gotten much out of it.

It's nice to see links ahead of time when I'm terminally bored, but besides that, it wasn't that great.

This got greenlit? Must be a membership drive going on.

At any rate, I had a TF membership a long time back. Financial stuff keeps me from having another (discretionary spending is cut). However I love this site and I'm not oblivious to the costs of running such a site. So if you have the ability to do so, support Drew. I think he's doing a good thing.

Unless you're one of those people who likes to submit lots of links and add to your greenlight total, TF doesn't do much.

Generation_D: True fact, I missed the discussions on redlit threads, and the general over all quality of user comments. That seemed to mostly fall off the cliff once the threads go green. Never had any idea how bad it was, as a 10 year TF'er, til I went lite for a while. Never again.

You just keep telling yourself that. The only way the discussions are better is that there are fewer people contributing to the thread, and you can keep a linear discussion going a little bit better.

I usually don't go TF just so I can avoid the dicks who like to tell everyone else how they're better because THEY have TF. it sounds like something an 8-year-old would say.

Someone gave me a subscription anonymously for a month. (Thanks to whoever it was.)

It was pretty boring. Just a long list of threads with no or very few comments in them, except the ones that eventually got greenlit.

I was surprised to see how long the process from submission on a thread to greenlight was. Ever since then, I've been more conscious of seeing stories on Fark that I've already seen before elsewhere.

TotalFark is 2000+ misspelled/shiatty links, and TotalFark discussion. Total Fark Discussion, or TFD, is a small forum where TFers contribute nonsense threads, advice threads like this, attention whore threads, worthless waste of time threads, etc. TFD is like AOL Teen Chat if the teenagers read the news. Last time I was TFing the whole month they had a strange obsession with posting "taco" threads. Nonsense threads where a bunch of bored TFers sit around typing gibberish to each other, I am not making this up. I truly mean nonsense threads that wouldnt seem out of place for a bunch of 15 year old kids in high school.TotalFarkers are paying $60 a year for this AOL Teen Chat and 2000+ shiatty links.

The only reason I would say TotalFark might be worth $5, is if you REALLY don't have a life. If you are bored all the time, don't mind wading through gibberish threads, and like to ask for advice a lot and receive immediate responses. It is also easy to troll there. A Fark liter gets everything else.

/TF for at least half a year
