| "Do you know just how fast you were going young lady?" "Yes, officer, I'm sorry. I'm late for a drug deal and he gets angry if we're late" |

Just pay for your drugs and go to the Soylent Green line. We could use bodies like yours |

Another example of the failed war on drugs. This woman felt the need to carry a handgun to a transaction for $200 worth of weed, whereas if I so chose I could walk into the liquor store tonight after work, purchase $200 worth of booze and casually stroll back out to my car, all without feeling the need to pack heat to protect my stash, my cash or my life. At what point can we as a society admit that a program that creates more problems than it solves is no longer beneficial to our society? |

When significantly more than 50% of the country finally figures out you can't legislate morality and that you don't need to "control" anyone beyond some rather simple rules. In other words, don't hold your breath. |

It's Sarasota, lady. You want drugs in a hurry? Talk to officer who just pulled you over. Cheaper prices, too. |

StrangeQ: At what point can we as a society admit that a program that creates more problems than it solves is no longer beneficial to our society? Having actually debated these types of people, my general impression is that they have different perceptions of harm. They think we underestimate the amount of damage the druggies will cause, we think they underestimate the amount of damage the police state IS causing. Finding out where those lines actually fall is the realm of serious scientific studies, but I think the weight of evidence supports us. At least for Marijuanna, probably cocaine and LSD*. Heroin addiction is probably best treated like how Britian used to do it - issue maintenance doses to verified addicts. It's cheap and tends to utterly kill the black market as they can't sustain themselves on the brief profitable period between the free samples to get people addicted and the addict seeing a doctor and getting it legally from the pharmacy. Unable to turn a profit, there's no dealers giving out 'free samples', which actually keeps the total number of addicts down to a relative trickle. *Some serious rules would need to be put in place regarding the use of it; my understanding is that you need a good 'guide' to channel the trip in positive ways. |
