Actually, MENSA started lowering their standards many years ago. There is actually another organization, a "MENSA-+", so to speak, for those truly exceptional intellect who have tired of the droll, predictable nature of pedants who believe a sub-160 IQ is even worth mentioning, much less celebrating with an "exclusive membership." But I can't really say much more about it other than that if you haven't received an invitation yet, you probably shouldn't expect one.

Your club allows 160's in? They must be positively desperate. My organization doesn't even consider people until they hit at least 170.

Listen buddy, when you can claim that you've been published in Who's Who Among American High School Students, come back and talk to me.

You know what's really sad, though? Not that there are those losers in life who haven't been published in that, because we all know there are. But that some of the people who do earn this achievement then fail to make it into the next volume, Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. I can't even imagine how sad it must be to hit such a height in high school and then never achieve anything of note again. How it must feel to be 20 and staring a life of abject failure and despair full-on, I'm glad I can only imagine. *shudder*

He's just precocious. He's actually been a full-fledged toilet fetishist since six months.

The diaper thing is like foreplay for him.

Is there actually a valid "no bullshiat" IQ test that is recognized throughout the USA? Too many ones out there to believe them as accurate.

/anyone?

Not in Mensa but smart enough to know what a quotient is. Given that mensa is open to people whose IQ's are in the 98th percentile and above, it would only follow that 2% of two year olds, or one year olds, or newborns or fetuses (probably should not have gone there) would qualify.

Call me when the kid proves the Higgs boson exists or figures out how to combine all the forces in nature.

The_Original_Roxtar: the entire group consists of self-congratulatory assholes who compete for attention with other self-congratulatory assholes.

True, but there's an additional dimension that's important. You can be a self-congratulatory asshole (like me!) but still understand that joining the self-congratulatory asshole club won't make you any less of an asshole, or count as actual congratulations.

It's the lack of self-awareness that makes Mensa what it is, not any particular correlation between IQ test scores and antisocial behavior.

mensa is cool because as an org they scam smart people. Most groups would say no way, we can't scam them they are too smart, let's run some wtc memorabilia commercials on fox news. But mensa said no, we can scale this peak. They said "we do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard" Pretty sure that's where that quote comes from...

there are a ton of different tests that can get you in, some just being spatial. So if the kid is really good at puzzles, it could be enough.

I'll reserve judgement until I see him at the local OATH mixer.

Well, high IQ aside, it is pointless for the kid to be a member of MENSA right now. The whole idea of a high IQ society is so those more mentally adroit can speak freely with those of comparable cognitive ability without having to dumb down what they say for any mouth breathing knuckle dragging troglodytes. This kid, for all his mental acuity, still can't communicate at more than a rudimentary level and the only reason for getting him into MENSA is to assuage the giant egos of his parents.

I actually AM in MENSA. I've never actually gone to any gatherings out of fear of running into the John Fitzgerald Page types. And I was high as a kite when I took the test, too.

I think it just means I'm good at taking standardized tests.

I'll admit it, I went and took the test about 10 years ago (it was offered at a local university during the summer) and got in. Paid my $40 for a year of membership and everything. I got on an email list for the local chapter and after a few messages from what appeared to be the most boring group of allegedly smart people ever to exist I just stopped reading them. Never even went to an outing or whatever they did/do to get together.

Still have the card though, fun to pull out and get a few laughs once in a while. Not sure to this day whether it was a scam or not, I didn't know anyone else in the test group so I couldn't find out if any of them actually didn't get in.

In summation: I am so smart, SMRT.

Alternate summation: CSB

I was a freaky genius when I was a little kid. These days, I'm lucky I remember to put my pants on every morning. I have no idea how it happened, but you can't argue with the results..

I don't know, but I do know that I can say things I don't know because most folks don't know either and won't call bullshiat on me.

so really, who cares? say it with conviction, and say it for the lulz.
