Hey, reinforced office chairs are expensive. Not to mention the increased plumbing costs.

Why risk the increase in Health Care costs for no reason? Typing and filing are easy, anyone can do it. Why not hire someone who looks good while doing it??

Why would I ever higher someone who was obese? They're more likely to have more medical problems and miss more work. I'm basically taking on the burden of someone who doesn't take care of themselves. Pass.

@BiffDangler: That'd be the vast majority of the human population.

Otherwise...

Speaking from personal experience, when I went from 260 lbs to 155 lbs, the journey was very enlightening. The smaller I got, the more people noticed me. Thinner = more approachable. I look at people who are the size I was then, and they frighten me. I wonder what they are hiding or what happened to them to make them so dependent on food. Because food *is* addictive and it *is* ubiquitous and, while being fat is socially unacceptable, eating a lot of food isn't. So good luck making sense out of that. For my own part - and I think I speak for most obese folks - no one ever taught me HOW to take good care of myself. 20 years of dieting through every bland, boring, tasteless and predictable program you can imagine never helped and it's really discouraging. You get to the point where you can't think of yourself as anything but fat, and then you're done. Once your self-perception is "I'm fat, I've always been fat and I'll always be fat," it is impossible to be anything BUT fat.

You can't change your body until you change your mind.

Their weight might be the same, but they carry it well.
Ms. Grumbles is 5'0" and +160 pounds. She has a slight belly and the rest is T&A. You might call her thick, pudgy, or plump, but not obese. To me, obese is when you don't carry it well, and that usually means you have too much of it, no matter your body type.

Hyppy: Morbidly obese women are usually a mental wreck.

Actually, you are right. And absenteeism among the morbidly obese is considerably higher than for thin and moderately overweight people. Morbidly obese people, even at relatively young ages, suffer from a host of chronic health problems.

But there seems to be a trend starting. People are waking up. Several fat people with whom I work are losing weight and most of them seem to be doing it the right way.

So was I the only one that looked at the pic in TFA, seeing the woman in the khaki pants thought "yeah, she's pretty overweight" and THEN saw the purple muumu next to her? Oh, lawd!

Two things:
1. I feel that there is no more unfortunate group in the developed world than fat women with small boobs. Not cool, God. Bajumblies are the consolation prize for having a fupa.

2. I find that people are far more accepting of fat people that remember to be jolly. You get to eat whatever the f*ck you want, please at least be a ray of emotional sunshine for the rest of us!

I'm the hiring manager at our company, so I usually get the last say. I would never hire an obese person and especially not a fat woman. They smell bad and look worse. They bring down the morale of the entire office with their never-ending tales of dieting and their hope to start exercising as soon as their eternal foot injury heals. They're bad for business.

That being said, I did almost hire a fatass once. She was quite gorgeous -- tallish, long tan legs, big breasts, blond hair. Her resume was incredible too. Incredibly talented and experienced. The only problem was she had a huge beer gut. I took one look at her and through her paperwork in the trash. I assumed she probably drank a case a night and ate shovelfuls of those miniature hotdogs.

Oddly enough, I run into her at the mall a few months later. Surprise, surprise, she's not fat anymore! I had to ask her, "what the hell happened to your beer gut? Did you have a tumor removed or something? You actually look terrific!" She was downright rude and not forthcoming. She gave me nasty look and stormed off. I guess it turned out okay in the end, because she was a total crank-biatch.

Congrats on losing that much weight but it looks like you're still passing blame off. I also lost a bunch of weight. Since grade school they've been pummeling nutrition propaganda into us, I knew better,I still got fat.

I take blame. I was fat because I liked to eat extra large portions on an extra small exercise regimen (I.e. none). To me the most repulsive thing that reinforces negative stereotypes about obese people is that theyll blame anything but themselves.

Mrs. JailhouseFistfark has similar proportions, though taller. All hips, ass, & bosom with an hourglass shape. Haters will call her fat but I call her magnificent. She has some friends, though, where it's all belly. Big ol' belly going everywhere and the ass is flat and the boobs are tiny. Big, thick necks, too. Ick.

Mrs. the Dwarf is built about the same way, though she's about 5'8" and closer to 180, I'm guessing. Personally, I'm a big fan of curvy bodies and soft skin. Lucky dude, right here.
