To traffic engineers expressways do not have as much access control as freeways. Expressways may have intersections where freeways have ramps. Residents of the Northeast use expressway as a synonym of freeway.

Also also, save the high speed runs for the middle part of I-88. With curves and cops and traffic the Thruway near Albany isn't a good place to go over 100.

Yep. Different story if it was the Northway (I-87 North of Albany, up to the Canadian border). No toll booths, so you could in theory get far enough ahead of the police so that you are out of sight, take one of the regular u-turn areas, double back, and get off at your first opportunity and 'blend in' to the local traffic, especially if you are familiar with the lesser traveled roads that lead to wooded areas where you can pull onto what is essentially a foot path and 'disappear' into the undergrowth, and watch the state trooper go zooming by.

Not that I would know anything about that, and even if I did, the statute of limitations would have surely run out by now.

I think it is safe to say he didnt think his cunning plan through, since as others have pointed out he is doing 170 on the NYS thruway (toll road) in an area which has a very heavy police presence due to the prolific drug traffic along the NYC to Montreal corridor . You can get away with this on stretches between SYR and ROC and ROC and BUF,

Pretty much, though it really depends on the cop, how busy/pissed he is, and department policy. I've had them try to chase at 150, and had them just give a wave at 100. Given, this was almost 20 years ago...I assume most have gone to more of a "no chase" rule for bikes, simply because it isn't worth the risk of killing someone over a speeding violation.

Finally gets a fresh set of skinny tires on it and starts challenging the police officers to clock him as he drives by at top speed.

Dumbass shows up late for work one night, proudly showing off his speeding ticket for 120 mph. "How the fark aren't you in jail?" "Jail? Why would I be in jail for a speeding ticket?"

Poor kid sounded so sand bagged, he never had any idea that this would be a consequence. Never saw him again, haven't seen his name in any accident reports...yet.

(And get the fark off the road, so they don't radio ahead. But don't take the 1st exit either, because that's where they're gonna check. Take the 2nd or 3rd. Get a burger or something. Hide your bike behind something and chill out for an hour or so)

I was in the car when a friend of mine did Albany to Kingston in 28 minutes. You can really get some good speed up on that highway.

In less-desolate Massachusetts a pack of bikers was doing triple digits on I-91. Cops gave chase. Two stopped. Four fled. Two of them must have found a good little back road to wait it out because they were never seen again. The last two drove past a new traffic surveillance camera after they got off the highway. I went to Montreal by bus once and coming back through that customs station wasn't fun. I had nothing and never do drugs, but for some reason the dog picked out my bag so I got searched and questioned. Going into Canada was a breeze though.

90 is the Thruway except when it's not, which is when it's the Berkshire Spur, or when it's just I-90 east of Albany, after it stops being part of the Thruway. Then, I-87 is the Thruway. Except when it's not. It's the Thruway south of Albany, but it's the Northway north of Albany.

If you are in Troy and want to get to Albany, you might want to head South on the Northway, and to avoid tolls, you should try to avoid the Thruway. Another option is to take route 7 to route 787 to route 87. But make sure you take Interstate Route 787, and not State Route 787, as state route 787 doesn't follow the Northway South, but rather goes into Latham and Cohoes.

Actually, in NY, it's called the "New York State Thruway". Rather than "tollway" which is what it really is, which is Super-Ultra-Retarded because Cuomo #1 had a great idea to push out the date to remove the tollbooths decades ago (which gave his successors the same "great" idea -- douchebags, all) when they were supposed to be pulled out in order to keep the revenues coming in to pay for a bloated Thruway Authority (whom no one seems to have control over), NY State budget that was already out of control even then. Slowly (and almost miraculously), there have been successful campaigns across the state to remove the odd toolbooth here and there. One successful tactic was a campaign to pay tolls in pennies (it worked for one tollbooth in Buffalo). Which doesn't seems o bad until realizing that some tolls are a dollar or more.
