They can charge you, but In the US, case law is overwhelmingly on your side if you fight it in court. Flipping the bird at a LEO has been ruled as Constitutionally protected free speech multiple times. The fact that you are directing it at a government official makes it political speech, which has the highest level of protection under the First Amendment.

If you do it irresponsibly you should face more than a financial slap on the wrist, and more than a 2 year ban. When he's 19 and back on the road, you think he'll be an improved, courteous road user?

Cheap fine. I had a €25 ticket for driving through a city like I was on the autobahn.

Back home in Norway a cheap speeding ticket is around $600. it really deters speeding and kills municipal revenue.

While we Germans biatch about fines, we still have the lowest in Europe. Actually laughably so. Speeding 20 kph out of town is a fine of 35 Euros and no point on your license. So you can guess how much I speed. (faster than that and the fines jump to over 100)

Point system: After you acquire 18 points, it's good bye license. And is is really hard to ever get it back.

He's 17. Multiple thousands of dollars in fines, and losing his license for >2 years is gonna hurt. Losing the bike is icing on the schadenfruede cake. I think they should've nailed him for not having the right license and plates on it too.

Of course, since he didn't have the right license in the first place, losing it won't keep him off the road.

I don't know how the German courts work, but in the USA I'd have to demand proof that each photo was of the same person and bike.

So umh why exactly do you stop at that point? You're also losing the license for 2 years and likely know your bike will be seized (since you did the modification work or paid someone to do it). Also you have no plates. If you're that farked, run. If nothing else getting clear and ditching the bike would still count as coming out ahead. when they trace the serial numbers back to you lie about it being stolen or something.

Making offensive gestures while driving is illegal in Germany, and the insult is the point. You will be fined commensurately with your income. Saw a TV show where a police chief in Germany said they had fined some wealthy fellow €23,000 for flipping someone off.

If it's the same as when I was a kid we would get a licsence for a 125 cc which would be a two stroke and horsepower was limited to a certain level. Some bikes that put out too much power had factory restrictrr plates on the intake that were easily removed for instant horsepower gains!. We would then make all kinds of modifications to them to boost power even more. We did this because you had to have riding experience and money to get the next level of license. It happened often to some friends that they would be stopped by a police officer who would pull the head off the motor (not a big deal on an air cooled 2 stroke). head looked at it and the piston for signs of modification. If he was a real jerk, he'd take the head with him and someone would have to walk the bike home.

So if I put a K&N air filter on my car it is illegal in Germany unless I fill out some paperwork?

I'm sure the 1/4th of a HP it will add will just make my car super fly fast.

But it is $40 one time versus $15/year.
