| Because People in power are Stupid How is this cool? Oh it's in Europe... |

| ZAZ He got off easy. Some police will charge reckless driving, or the local equivalent, allegedly because making gestures while driving is dangerous but in fact because they are offended. |

| Cythraul FTA: The teenager, who did not even have the right driving license for the bike, was hit with a fine of €160 euros Whaa? For driving that fast, putting himself and others in danger?! FTA: three penalty points I don't even know what that mean. How many penalty points until you permanently lose your right to drive? FTA: And a month's driving ban - for each of his 26 recorded offences. Weak! FTA: The tuning work on his 125cc vehicle was also found to be illegal, so the bike was confiscated and sent for an expert technical assessment. Hah ha! Unless he's a rich kid, now that will definitely hurt. |

hit with a fine of €160 euros wow, that's like over $200 dollars but i guess $dollars aren't worth what they used to be |
||
| Earguy Cythraul: FTA: And a month's driving ban - for each of his 26 recorded offences. Weak! I dunno, If I were 17 and lost driving privileges for over tow years, I'd be pretty devastated. Then again, he's probably just going to drive without anyway. BTW, my spell checker says that "offences" is misspelled, take THAT you dirty, superior Europeans! And take the extra "u" with you too! |

ZAZ: He got off easy. Some police will charge reckless driving, or the local equivalent, allegedly because making gestures while driving is dangerous but in fact because they are offended. They can charge you, but In the US, case law is overwhelmingly on your side if you fight it in court. Flipping the bird at a LEO has been ruled as Constitutionally protected free speech multiple times. The fact that you are directing it at a government official makes it political speech, which has the highest level of protection under the First Amendment. |

Dead for Tax Reasons: hit with a fine of €160 euros wow, that's like over $200 dollars but i guess $dollars aren't worth what they used to be 26 x 160 = 4160 euros, quite a bit over $200 dollars I would say. But he still got off lightly. Driving is a privilege, not a right. If you do it irresponsibly you should face more than a financial slap on the wrist, and more than a 2 year ban. When he's 19 and back on the road, you think he'll be an improved, courteous road user? |

Cheap fine. I had a €25 ticket for driving through a city like I was on the autobahn. Back home in Norway a cheap speeding ticket is around $600. it really deters speeding and kills municipal revenue. |
||
| lucksi
While we Germans biatch about fines, we still have the lowest in Europe. Actually laughably so. Speeding 20 kph out of town is a fine of 35 Euros and no point on your license. So you can guess how much I speed. (faster than that and the fines jump to over 100) Point system: After you acquire 18 points, it's good bye license. And is is really hard to ever get it back. |

Unless he's a rich kid, now that will definitely hurt. He's 17. Multiple thousands of dollars in fines, and losing his license for >2 years is gonna hurt. Losing the bike is icing on the schadenfruede cake. I think they should've nailed him for not having the right license and plates on it too. Of course, since he didn't have the right license in the first place, losing it won't keep him off the road. I wonder what constitutes illegal modifications to a bike in Germany. Was it an air pollution issue? Noise? Do they actually regulate power or require a licensed mechanic to sign off on modifications? |
||
| mark12A 125cc??? Isn't that like two and half Mopeds? |
||
| the_sidewinder Cythraul: Weak! Well that's $5469 (USD), and enough demerits to ban him from driving until a psych signs off (78 demerits, and the German scale only goes up to 18, so this may take a while) plus just over 2 years driving ban for that last bit |
||
| cowgirl toffee This is funny cause I was caught by a speed camera yesterday. *breaking down, crying...* |

I don't know how the German courts work, but in the USA I'd have to demand proof that each photo was of the same person and bike. And 125cc? One of those made in china bikes I keep seeing ads for? He got busted for driving the sort of speed I consider annoyingly slow. |
||
| ha-ha-guy
So umh why exactly do you stop at that point? You're also losing the license for 2 years and likely know your bike will be seized (since you did the modification work or paid someone to do it). Also you have no plates. If you're that farked, run. If nothing else getting clear and ditching the bike would still count as coming out ahead. when they trace the serial numbers back to you lie about it being stolen or something. |
||
| winpioneer
The tuning work on his 125cc vehicle was also found to be illegal, so the bike was confiscated and sent for an expert technical assessment. Since when Hayabusas are 125cc? I thought they were more 1300cc, Bike being confiscated for an expert tech? yea right, he'll never see it back... |

cgraves67: I wonder what constitutes illegal modifications to a bike in Germany. Was it an air pollution issue? Noise? Do they actually regulate power or require a licensed mechanic to sign off on modifications? Everything that is not in your papers is illegal unless certified by the technical inspection agency. This goes for all road going vehicles/bikes. As I am driving a ricer (hey, I was young once), my car papers explicitly state what spoilers I have, what tires I'm allowed to have on and so on. I needed a certification for alloys, for different shocks and so on and so forth. You can't even throw in a different air filter without it having a certification. Well, you can, but if you get caught... And crap like underfloor lighting and even those stupid LEDs in the windscreenwasher nozzles are illegal. And you have mandatory inspections every two years and emmision checks and and and. Sounds neat? |

Apparently, this guy isn't the only one who likes to speed through the tunnel. Two weeks after go-live 2,500 speed violations were recorded. The record was a vehicle traveling 158 km/h when 80 km/h where allowed. |

It's a 125cc learner's bike. 60mph is likely the top speed of his little baby cycle. But yes, a GSX-R 1300 'Hayabusa' is indeed just under 1300cc. 60mph is also painfully slow. Heck, that's only top of first gear on my R6. |

Yes, but in Germany it is not protected speech. It's even illegal to make a rude gesture to another driver. Or honk your horn. |

ZAZ: He got off easy. Some police will charge reckless driving, or the local equivalent, allegedly because making gestures while driving is dangerous but in fact because they are offended. Making offensive gestures while driving is illegal in Germany, and the insult is the point. You will be fined commensurately with your income. Saw a TV show where a police chief in Germany said they had fined some wealthy fellow €23,000 for flipping someone off. |

What kind of a nation full of pussies is terrorized by someone speeding on a 125 cc Pos. ? |

Removing dangerous drivers from the road is in our interest. The more cams, the better. Flip them off all you want, who cares? As long as they prevented you from speeding or running red lights, they're working. |

skodabunny: Driving is a privilege, not a right. Always used right before screwing someone over. Driving in many places is required to go about living. |

Kuroshin: 60mph is likely the top speed of his little baby cycle. Meet the Aprilia RS 125. Top speed: 110 MPH (that's not including any mods). |

If it's the same as when I was a kid we would get a licsence for a 125 cc which would be a two stroke and horsepower was limited to a certain level. Some bikes that put out too much power had factory restrictrr plates on the intake that were easily removed for instant horsepower gains!. We would then make all kinds of modifications to them to boost power even more. We did this because you had to have riding experience and money to get the next level of license. It happened often to some friends that they would be stopped by a police officer who would pull the head off the motor (not a big deal on an air cooled 2 stroke). head looked at it and the piston for signs of modification. If he was a real jerk, he'd take the head with him and someone would have to walk the bike home. |
||
| TheGreatGazoo So if I put a K&N air filter on my car it is illegal in Germany unless I fill out some paperwork? I'm sure the 1/4th of a HP it will add will just make my car super fly fast. But it is $40 one time versus $15/year. |
