These stories are not choking me up lately. Can we get one about a dog that walked 500 miles to find his owner or something? |

I tried to join the Marines when I was 25 and was rejected. I figured if I was going to go in the Forces I might as well go all the way. Nothing against the Army, but they were going to accept me. Of course this was right in the middle of the Iraq and Afghanistan war. If I couldn't have the Marines then I didn't want anything. God bless you, kid. |
||
| devildog123 I was there to help guide one of the little kids with cancer around Quantico in 1999. It was for Make-A-Wish, and he got some cammies and dress blues cut to his size. We took him to the range, gave him a ride in a CH-46, let him yell at some Privates. He had a blast. He died a few months later, but he said being out with us was the most fun he'd ever had. /mot even going to lie about dust and onions //I still tear up over it. |

acanuck: What a waste of tax money - shouldn't they be in Afghanistan with their buddies vs a candyass assignment warding off ghosts? That marine is so going to get to bang the kid's mom. But seriously, making a kid feel secure is more noble than killing brown people over oil. This is a great use of a marine's time. |

[cdn.wg.uproxx.com image 300x225] Ghosts are a good warm up when you're practicing to fight lava monsters. Lava monsters that hate our freedoms. And so, at each death, the soul descends further into the inner earth attaining ever greater levels of purification, reaching enlightenment at the core. Assuming, of course, that your soul is able to avoid the lava men. /Godspeed, tough little guy. //Damn dust. |

Cody had leukemia since he was 22 months old, but beat the disease three times |

I do believe that's one of the saddest things I've read in a LONG time. Farking hell, he beat leukemia THREE times and it was a farking mushroom that attacked his brain and killed him? That's just... overwhelmingly sad. Semper Fi, little man. |

After reading all these comments up to this point, I've read each of the trolls at least 5 or 6 times over. Seriously, we all read the trollers and all hate them but those who feel the need to quote them and then berate them are only assisting them again and again. Is there not anything more satisfying in a sad article comment section than reading the jackass comment then never having to read it again? Oooooohhhh yeah baby, I looove that. |

As long as I have been here, it still astonishes me that so many people come into threads like this simply to troll or prove their, inevitably, manhood by posting imbecile snark. Keyboard warriors for the win. /I know, I know, welcometofark.jpg |

Damn. How very sad. I can't imagine the pain his parents must be in. As an aside, this is exactly why I don't believe in a loving God. Reminds me of Father Maxi at Butters' funeral: "Lord, as we commit this child's body to the earth, may we ask it be the last child you strike down so mercilessly. We know this request to be futile, Lord, but just thought we would ask." /I respectfully return my ticket. |

Damn, it is Pixar's Toy Story 3 level dusty in here. I'm pretty sure actually seeing a picture of the guy standing guard outside the room would cause me to weep openly. God bless every Marine who helped make this boy's last days totally awesome. |

| J. Frank Parnell Ed Grubermann: Yes, chemo really screws you up. It's poison. Poison that's just a wee bit deadlier to your cancer than it is to you. It's equally deadly to everything, and even if it gets the cancer without killing you, your immune system is badly crippled, and you have a high chance of getting cancer again from it. 5 year survival rates for chemo patients are terrible. It's literally the dumbest 'treatment' anyone could ever come up with. |

I want to give an anonymous gift to his parents. I have a bowl that I've already bisque fired, and I have these new glazes that can be painted on prior to final firing. Should I do an abstract scarlet and gold, or do you have suggestions as to a pattern that I should do? /any suggestions would be appreciated |

But it works better than anything else we have right now (for certain types of cancer it's the only treatment available). Gotta work with the tools you've got. |

MajorGroove: It takes a strong kid to make it through what he made it through. It takes a strong person to stand by a dying child. I'm grateful for anyone and everyone who goes out of their way to ease the pain of a dying child and his/her family. It really does make a difference. /pediatrician Stories like this are the reason I decided against a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia. I can maintain enough objectivity to do my job well with adults, but it's way to hard to look at a kid my daughter's age going through a terminal illness and not immediately think of my daughter. Or worse, put myself in the parents position. I'm thankful for you guys who can do it day in and day out and not take it home with you. Better you than me. |
