My Droid 4 laughs at Subby. Love the keyboard.

Touch screens are awesome. Contextual keyboards can have larger buttons instead of 3 symbols that slowly wear off a tiny key.

Droid has had the ability to us speech to create texts for a while, the only difference is my phone doesn't talk back to me.
I also like the swipe ability with the virtual keyboard on my phone

Good. I might look into a crackberry then. I can physically type a number or a text without looking at it with a keypad (useful for walking, ignoring people during meetings, while stopped at a stoplight, etc). Sounds like they are in-tune with what real business professionals want.

While an iPhone guy now, I was a BB guy forever, and still rollout and support BES installations all the time. There's probably a solid business market for a device that's the best of both worlds- large touchscreen with slide out keyboard. I know that it's been done, but I'm not aware of it being done well.

That said, the entire RIM model is based on the ubiquity of email. That's missing the entire point (and the future) of integrated communications. And I say this as a Canadian with more than a passing financial interest in RIMs success.

That'll save plenty of RIM jobs.

I just upgraded my Pre+ to a Razr Maxx. While I like the performance, application selection and battery that will make it through a full day of heavy use in a bad service area, I definitely miss the physical keyboard.

I'll second this. I've been very happy with the Droid 4 and its keyboard.

I wish there was still a wide selection of flip-phones that didn't completely suck. I have fears of busting my current phone's screen after breaking my last phone and a previous mp3 player while they were in my pocket.

I loathe touch screen key boards. It takes me 5 times as long to type something on those farking things. I'll stick with blackberry as long as they keep the physical keyboards. True, they don't have 100,000 more useless time wasting apps, but that's kind of the point.

I hate texting or writing on my phone, mostly because I don't like to be hunched over it like an Igor. But Swype is much, much faster and easier than tap typing, on a screen or a keyboard/numberpad.

Physical keyboards are the only reason to even get a blackberry now.

When it comes to phone-sized devices, before Swype I was definitely in the physical keyboard camp. Now that I have a device with it, can't see how anyone can stand a touch keyboard without it.

That's true. Although of all the stupid shiat the IT divisions I've dealt with insist on, BBs rank pretty low. We still use Lotus Notes.

The decider for me was the usability of the rest of the phone, a keyboard doesn't matter if your phone OS is shiat blackberry, take that in stride lest you suffer the fate of Palm

I much prefer having a physical keyboard. It's a lot easier for my huge, grotesque toe thumbs.

This rotary phone app is kinda cool though.

anyone know if you can do a Swype type keyboard with other layout variants, in Android? I use dvorak, and I think qwerty would ruin that whole thing for me.

Also, anyone ever try 8pen? How does it work? Looking for something to "touchtype" moderate texts and such.

We typically quote 2 hours repair times on blackberries, and they can take much longer on really screwed up ones. Shiat, BBs take forever just to boot up after a battery pull.

I don't mind a lack of a physical keyboard, as I've figured out how to get my voice-to-txt to about a 95% accuracy or better. Seriously, it interprets weirdly very very rarely.

Heh, I've probably got at least that many SMS messages on my blackberry, seems to run fine. Well' as fine as it ever did, which isn't exactly a high bar I guess.

The trolltastic headlines never end on here. Shockingly most adults actually prefer an real keyboard. We'll see how many are still fondle screens in a few years.
