Found this in a coffee shop, maybe that second part is true. |

I would much rather have a Blackberry with a physical keyboard than a shiatty touch screen. |

BurnShrike: I would much rather have a Blackberry with a physical keyboard than a shiatty touch screen. I've used both including time on what some coworkers said was a nice touchscreen as opposed to shiatty. I still prefer physical keys. Hell, work'll cover a BB or an iPhone (full data etc) and so far I'm keeping the BB mainly for that. /BB-like typing detected... |

My Droid 4 laughs at Subby. Love the keyboard. |
||
| itsdan Touch screens are awesome. Contextual keyboards can have larger buttons instead of 3 symbols that slowly wear off a tiny key. |

A rotary-dial on a cell phone could get some good hipster market share, maybe. |

Good. I might look into a crackberry then. I can physically type a number or a text without looking at it with a keypad (useful for walking, ignoring people during meetings, while stopped at a stoplight, etc). Sounds like they are in-tune with what real business professionals want. /excuse me //have to be at the gym in 26 minutes |

I like having a physical keyboard for when it's cold outside, and I have to type with gloves on. /my $0.02 |

While an iPhone guy now, I was a BB guy forever, and still rollout and support BES installations all the time. There's probably a solid business market for a device that's the best of both worlds- large touchscreen with slide out keyboard. I know that it's been done, but I'm not aware of it being done well. That said, the entire RIM model is based on the ubiquity of email. That's missing the entire point (and the future) of integrated communications. And I say this as a Canadian with more than a passing financial interest in RIMs success. |

Much easier and faster than a keyboard. |

I just upgraded my Pre+ to a Razr Maxx. While I like the performance, application selection and battery that will make it through a full day of heavy use in a bad service area, I definitely miss the physical keyboard. |

I wish there was still a wide selection of flip-phones that didn't completely suck. I have fears of busting my current phone's screen after breaking my last phone and a previous mp3 player while they were in my pocket. /now carry the phone in a belt case //ipod has a screen protector and a backcase ///both are carried screen-side towards my body to avoid random bumps on pointed objects breaking the screen |

I loathe touch screen key boards. It takes me 5 times as long to type something on those farking things. I'll stick with blackberry as long as they keep the physical keyboards. True, they don't have 100,000 more useless time wasting apps, but that's kind of the point. |

As a BES Admin, I really wish they'd put some more effort into the enterprise support side of things. The phones already do pretty much everything you need from them and the rest is all just toys. |

||
| Ishkur Yes, well, some people like to use their phones for actual work instead of just dicking around. |

This thread is full of people who don't know about Swype. I hate texting or writing on my phone, mostly because I don't like to be hunched over it like an Igor. But Swype is much, much faster and easier than tap typing, on a screen or a keyboard/numberpad. |
||
| jabbedxorz
Physical keyboards are the only reason to even get a blackberry now. |
||
| Satanic_Hamster Eh. I know a lot of people who like physical keys, especially the ones who actually DO a lot of "real" typing on it. |

I WOULD LOVE A ROTARY DIALER ON MY CELL! twice... Then I'd hate it. |

SharkTrager: Once you have swype you'll change your mind. Much easier and faster than a keyboard. When it comes to phone-sized devices, before Swype I was definitely in the physical keyboard camp. Now that I have a device with it, can't see how anyone can stand a touch keyboard without it. |

I checked into this thread thinking "a rotary dial on a smartphone! How awsome I have to have it!" and found a bunch of old progs complaining about touch sccreens ;) |
||
| loonatic112358 having had both, i'm sort of meh The decider for me was the usability of the rest of the phone, a keyboard doesn't matter if your phone OS is shiat blackberry, take that in stride lest you suffer the fate of Palm |

This seems like a good place to ask: anyone know if you can do a Swype type keyboard with other layout variants, in Android? I use dvorak, and I think qwerty would ruin that whole thing for me. Also, anyone ever try 8pen? How does it work? Looking for something to "touchtype" moderate texts and such. I have a shiatty old blackberry now, and want to upgrade, but none of the phones I like the looks of have a keyboard, probably time to migrate away from physical keyboard. |

I hard reset phones for a living (or at least it feels that way most days). My only real complaint about Blackberries is how long it takes to do anything software related on those phones. We typically quote 2 hours repair times on blackberries, and they can take much longer on really screwed up ones. Shiat, BBs take forever just to boot up after a battery pull. /real estate agents are the worst. "I can't be without my phone for 2 hours!" //If you deleted some shiat every once in awhile this wouldn't be necessary. Of course your phone is running slowly, you've got 3,000 SMS messages and 100 voicemails... |

If RIM paid this level of attention to actually innovating instead of just copying others, there may be hope for them after all. Who doesn't like a comeback story? |

I don't mind a lack of a physical keyboard, as I've figured out how to get my voice-to-txt to about a 95% accuracy or better. Seriously, it interprets weirdly very very rarely. On the other hand, I think I would get a major kick out of having a physical rotary dial on one. |

Well' as fine as it ever did, which isn't exactly a high bar I guess. |

The trolltastic headlines never end on here. Shockingly most adults actually prefer an real keyboard. We'll see how many are still fondle screens in a few years. |
||
| Goimir SharkTrager: Once you have swype you'll change your mind. Much easier and faster than a keyboard. Does it require the phone to do any interaction with you between words? There's a reason sites like "damn you autocorrect" came about with the widespread acceptance of touchscreens, and not 15 years ago when people started using PDAs /we know how to type //yes I know it's cheaper to make a phone without a keyboard. I'd rather pay $50 more for something usable than save $50 and tell my wife "I got the Hessians at the grocery store" |
