So now we're having protests about "size discrimination," or "sizeism," as it's being called by one of 30 people who are protesting about it

"We are all humans and we all deserve to be treated equally and nobody should be denied access or the right to do things because of their outward appearance," Ramos said.

You're not interviewing for a job, it's a club. Try to set foot in a lot of clubs in South Beach or LA. They won't be nearly as nice. You'd be crying in your bathtub size carton of rocky road.

She said some people misinterpreted her story and thought she was trying to promote obesity, which she is not. She said she is trying to raise awareness about discrimination based on size.

I'm definitely not trying to promote stupidity. I just want to stop discrimination against the not very smart.

For University of Iowa student Robert LeBeau, 21, the demonstration was all about fairness.

Yep, we'll have a talk with gravity, and the laws of thermodynamics, and explain to them why they are unfair.

That's the logical disconnect they have. They're not being denied due to appearance, they're being denied due to the fact they represent unhealthy choices.

Darth_Lukecash: I'm just saying, that food intake and exercise, is the definite key, there are genetic/enviromental/phsycological issues present.

There will come a day not too far off when the assholes who post things on fark like "why don't those whales just stop stuffing their faces and get skinny?" will feel as stupid as those who used to say things like "why can't alcoholics just show a little willpower?"

I've been enormously fat and now I'm not, and the process of losing 130 lbs involved eating MORE and exercising far LESS than I did when I was gigantic. Low carb was the key, not calorie reduction for me because that's how my metabolism/intestinal fauna is geared to work. It's starting to look like there is huge variation in humans about what diet does or does not make them heavy and medical science's idiotic one size fits all advice is actually counter productive

Darth_Lukecash: Im 10 pounds overweight . I've been as high as 25 pounds. It's a struggle for me, because of many issues. Depression, work scedual and more.

The mechanisms that make you fat also make you depressed.
Also, stress makes you fat.

Soln: Exercise to reduce stress. Take care of your diet and your depression will become less depressed.

I don't see how your angry rant undermines the fundamental concept of:

"Want to lose weight? Stop eating lots of stuff that causes you to gain weight."

It's one thing to do the Freshman 15 in college and then figure out how to put the brakes on that. It's another thin to reach the point where you need to drop 130, that shows long term negligence regarding the problem.

No one "deserves" respect just for being a human being. That is entirely antithetical to the whole concept of respect. In fact, I might argue that taking such an idiotic stance on this issue precludes the possibility of respect entirely.

Here's another vote for the calorie tracking. I got one of these:

img822.imageshack.us

And it becomes a simple numbers game. You can eat more on days when you're more active, or you can try and keep the calorie in/out spread as wide as possible.

Bonus? Leave it on for sex (or yanking it, or muffin crushing) and you can tally up sexytime calories. You'd be amazed what you can burn off.

People see thin people eating less and exercising more and assume that eating less and exercising more caused them to be thin. While in reality, it's that being thin made them eat less and exercise more.

Our entire science of diet and diseases is based on statistical correlation data and lots of idiots assuming causation in many cases and giving medical advice based on that.

Low-carb does seem to be a very effective solution but there are still a lot of low-carb permutations. Saturated fats, grains, legumes are still debated. Some assume it's the fructose that's the culprit while others say glucose is essential while others says entire carbs are unnecessary.

Why does "sizeism" automatically mean discrimination against fat people?

What about discrimination against tall, short, or skinny people?

True fact: Short people in general like women are consistently under paid and under promoted in comparison to tall men.

Wouldn't a better name be obeasiphobia?

So because one douchebag bartender was an asshole and wouldn't let the princess dance on his rickety bar, this suddenly becomes a "size discrimination" issue for which we're all somehow to blame?

You're not even that big, sweetheart. There are enormously overweight people who genuinely get discriminated against because they're huge whales; but you're not in that category. You just got picked on by one dumbass man who likes coatracks with tits and lips.

As a tall white man, I'm getting a kick.

That being said, I like my girls on the thicker side. Not only am I more physically attracted to them (I like having a little something to grab on to), they are usually a little more down to earth than the infantile, superficial little Barbie wannabes. Been there, done that, life's too short to spend it with a child.

And that being said, I don't know that any of my thicker girls would want to dance up on the pole at a club. Most people, myself included, really don't want to see that. Not that I don't many different kinds of women sexy, but there are people who should be doing that, and people who shouldn't. It's no big deal. That biatch just needs to go be fat somewhere else, for once this is the correct place to say it!

While my physical fitness is probably better than most peoples (who probably have to be at the gym in 26 minutes), my metabolic disorder (shut up, it's real, look up PCOS) makes weight loss a slow, seemingly impossible process. So while some people are on the bigger side, not all of us deserve the ridicule or stigma attached. I'm capable of doing anything and everything a thinner person does, and probably better too!

Oh fark me running.

Really? REALLY?? "Sizeism" "Plus Sized" and all that are stupid. YOU. ARE. FAT.

I used to be a fat bastard until my heart freaked out and I decided to put down the soda and donuts and actually walk around instead of sitting all damn day in my desk and work and when I got home. It's hard to do, really damned hard and honestly unless you have dropped a crap ton of weight safely (none of that dehydration and surgical mess) you won;t understand.

I can and usually do sympathize with others about people being mean because you're nasty tub of lard, I really can.

However, if you're a nasty tub of lard because of anything else but a documented medical reason then you are mostly to blame for being treated like crap. You have the power to change yourself at any age and only your general ambition and drive set the limits. I had to completely change my lifestyle, including a career of 20+ years and my first marriage to drop over 200 lbs, and if my lazy ass can do it ...
... ANY-FARKING-ONE can.

I've been scrawny my entire life due to a serious medical condition. Nobody has any problem calling me "Slim" or "Stretch" or mocking me endlessly about my size. It's obnoxious. Meanwhile if I countered with anything derogatory about their porcine appearance I'm the worst person ever. I don't care if you're fat but if you want to start making fun of my stature you'd better be able to take what you give.

I had friend who was MERCILESS with the skinny jokes. It was all in good fun but one day I decided to toss a few comments back at him about being bald and chubby (he wasn't even that chubby). He f*cking LOST it and actually pushed me. That was hilarious. After he was done pouting he realized how foolish his little tantrum was and started laughing with me.

i'm a fat bastard that now regrets standing up for college girl in the first FARK thread. because of this young ladies public moaning that pub had its dancing stage demolished. all the sweet college girls will dance up high no more and the patrons who enjoyed viewing the gyrating had it taken away from then. that is so uncool. one very big mouth spoiled the fun for a lot of people. shame on her.

i kind of hope the boys & girls who recognize her on the college campus let her know she bites the big one in many ways. she really does define 'attention whore'.

if college girl needs a fat old farker to throw her the sex stick to put her in a better mood and make her feel better about herself i will volunteer to take one (or many) for the team. i really miss sex. badly.

Mugato: Man On A Mission: By sticking with the calorie goal (2,100 a day),

Damn, I could never eat that much in one day. What do you mainline entire liquefied chickens?

If you eat three meals a day it's really not that hard. A dinner is going to be 500-800 calories depending on how big it is. A bowl of cereal is like 500 calories for 2% milk. A light sandwich with just a couple slices of turkey/ham and a condiment is going to be 300-400. That's like 1300-1700 right there, assuming you eat nothing else and drink only water. And if you're of a normal body weight and average height, you're probably going to want to eat something else, since you'd probably burn about that many calories just by sitting around all day.

2,100 really isn't a lot, even if you're only 20 pounds overweight. I don't know how small and thin you are, but the 2k kcal number is for males of like 5'10" height and 180 lbs. weight and it's not that hard to get there.

It's easy to stay under or at 2k kcal if you cut the snacks and sweet drinks like soda, but most people have trouble with that.

Man On A Mission: Downloaded a calorie app to my phone and discovered I was way off in my estimates.

By sticking with the calorie goal (2,100 a day), I was able to drop 10 pounds in five weeks. No extra exercise (ride a bike a few days a week for a few miles), either. Biggest change was to stop drinking pop. I had NO idea just how many calories ever regular can of Coke has, much less the biggie size at the drive-thru.

So, no, I really don't have sympathy for the obese. Stop eating so much and you will weight. It's really as simple as that.

I did that drank coke all day long stopped and have been drinking water or tea no sugar for a year trying to get off 5 pounds lost 1 and that is it and am pissed. I am over 30 so maybe I'm stuck.

I'm not over weight so maybe this is why I can't lose it but maybe some people just don't lose weight easily so I do have compassion for those big boned girls who will never be a size 6 or 8 or for some 12 would not be a healthy weight they are made to be a 14.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Obviously any newborn with a statistically small B.L.Z. Bub: Oh, I misinterpreted the headline. I thought this was going to be about penis size discrimination.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Obviously any newborn found to have a small penis needs to be sterilized to prevent passing on that unfortunate trait. Likewise, any man visiting a doctor for a checkup or a consultation who is found to have a little penis needs to be sterilized and if he has any children, then they should also be sterilized. Any woman who is found to have given birth to a child with a tiny penis shall be required to undergo a hysterectomy just to make sure. Late-term abortion to prevent emergence of micropenis should be completely acceptable. Why burden society with an awful miniscule penis?

We can eliminate small penis syndrome from our population within three generations. We merely need the will to do it.

As a female- you are crazy. Bowl of cereal is 500 calories? WTF are you eating? Cheerios are 100 calories a cup. Measure a cup and put it in a bowl- not that hard. I'm not familiar with the calories in non-skim milk but skim has 80 calories. So when I measure (and I measure) my 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of cereal I know that that should be 180 calories. Then you eat a banana or a bunch of berries (save it for a snack if you're a snacker) and that is 280 calories.

I'm with you on the sandwich- seems right for lunch. 500-800 for dinner- okay, but if you're having a hard time not eating a huge dinner try eating fish or vegetarian and make sure 1/2 your plate is vegetables.

I am small and although I exercise, I'm not an athlete- I count calories and eat 1200-1400 a day. It is not difficult. I do eat dinner pretty late since I'm not usually hungry in the afternoon but get hungry before bed if I eat dinner late.

Sorry I get pissy when people are complaining about how little they can eat when they are on a diet. They are eating more than I (and MANY OTHER FEMALES or small people) eat on a normal basis. I guess I am mad about sizeism too. Mostly because when they gave out free tshirts at the baseball game they were all XL! Total BS. And whats up with high shelves- and why are the good things always on them?? :'(

/deli meat, bread, 1%+ milk, juice, soda are all on my 'do not eat' list.
