| downstairs Ummmm... the Beastie Boys disavowed that song long ago, and quit playing it live. Nice tribute, idiots. |

Seems more disrespectful to play a song like that in memory of a Buddhist who hadn't played it himself since 1987, But, whatever. |
||
| Adalius I'd kind of like to see Gogol Bordello cover Fight For Your Right. |

I don't give a damn what any of you jagoffs think.... Coldplay can rock. |

In tribute to Coldplay's tribute, I will now eat this bacon sandwich. I was going to eat it anyway, but one hollow gesture deserves another. |

That's a really bad cover |

| The All-Powerful Atheismo
"In 2011, Adam Yauch directed and wrote a surreal comedic short film entitled Fight for Your Right Revisited to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original video's release." Sounds like they didn't entirely disavow it. Just that they didn't like the fact that it had been misinterpreted, so they stopped playing it. |

No just no. Would have more sense for someone like Weezer, Foo, or even Rage but Coldplay? Nope. |

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahah! *breathe* hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ha Oh man, that's just precious. A vanilla and toned down cover that had all the energy of a turtle sunning itself on a log "rocks"? |

The song was written to make fun of pretentious fratboy douches by emulating them. The band was quite suprised and dissapointed when the target of their scathing humor missed the joke entirely and embraced the song eagerly. Like it or not it was thier best known song. Weird renditition though- Party anthem and Coldplay just gon't belong together. Not a Coldplay hater. It's good to go to sleep or relax to and it makes pretty good sex background music for when you want something more modern. |

I liked the Beastie Boys version and Coldplay's cover, different interpretation of the song. Not every cover has to be in a similar tone to the original. |

I'm sure they have some form of talent, but they use that talent to be boring, bland and safe musically. Something the Beastie Boys most definitely weren't. |

I think this comment from that page sums up the performance quite nicely: just as Lawrence explained I didn't know that someone able to earn $4308 in one month on the computer. have you seen this webpage |

I figure this will be the least trol-ish place to put this. I was born in 83, so I guess I'm too young for the Beasty Boys, but I absolutely cannot stand them. I hate every. Single. farking. Song. I've ever heard them do. I know this, because when I said I didn't like them to a guy I used to work with, he proceeded to play every god damned album they ever made, to 'prove me wrong'. I don't have anything against them, and I'm sad to see anyone die of cancer. I just wanted to rant. Were they really such a big deal? I never hear them on any radio station, but what the hell does that mean in Dalls, since everything's Clearchannel top 40's Ryan Seacrest. |

Hell they said as much when they released "The Sounds of Science". It was odd that nobody got the joke considering they had released She's On it the previous year with a video mocking the David Lee Roth style videos of the time. |

9beers: rickycal78: Oh man, that's just precious. Says the music snob. Let me guess, we haven't even heard of the music you like, right? Oh no, I'm far from a music snob. I like a fair variety of musical styles and even enjoy some music by bands that are widely reviled by the majority of Farkers. A little bit of R&B, little bit of pop, lots of various well known rock, hard rock and metal, little bit of classical, hell I even enjoy a few country songs here and there. But what I don't enjoy is bland, emotionless and boring pap. And that's what Coldplay seems to specialize in. |

I was in high school when License to ill came out. It was an immediate sensation. They brought hip hop into the mainstream of white America. \And they did it with a wiffle ball bat. |

I am conflicted. It wasn't good, but it probably would have been worse if they tried covering it in the style of the original. |

Can somebody explain the purpose of parentheses in song titles? |

I was born in 82 and spent the summers at my grandparents in the middle of nowhere. They only listened to old old country music. One summer when I was around 7, one of my aunts happened to leave a cassette at the house. Beastie Boys - License to Ill. I listened to the entire tape at least once a day for an entire summer and many summers after that. I really really enjoyed that tape. I think that if I had not found that tape, I would have grown up only liking country music. |

I liked it. It was a nice gesture, from a band I never would have suspected. If you asked me to name artists who'd pay tribute to the Beastie Boys, Coldplay probably wouldn't even have made the list. |

IMDWalrus: It was a nice gesture It's exactly that - a nice gesture. I can't understand why people are getting their knickers in a twist because a band paid tribute to an influential artist in their own way. Personally, I thought it was a very touching rendition. |

B.L.Z. Bub: Can somebody explain the purpose of parentheses in song titles? To differentiate the actual song title from the word or phrase normally associated with the song . Example: This Bird Has Flown (Norwegian Wood) IIRC |

Wow, that rendition really made me want to jump up and fight for my right to party. So energetic! I was really hoping that, after the first verse, Martin would let out a yell and the song would become more energetic and aggressive. But nope. It was like watching Yanni. |

sorry, I love the beastie boys. for 20 years I've listened to them. I think its cool that anyone pays tribute to them. But that version is completely opposite of the point of the song, its lame, and might as well be tori amos playing it. NEGATIVE 5 STARS. |

Rhythmic genius? I can't play music for shiat, and freely admit it. And I'm sure a great many Farkers would agree that my opinion on what I consider decent entertainment stinks. But like the vast majority of Farkers here my opinions count as fact so neener neener neener! /slight snarkiness |
