People (usually older) who have a "reefer madness" level of understanding will always think pot is a big deal and consider it an ultra important, save the country, election issue.
People 9usually younger) who aren't hysterically ignorant won't consider it to be a big deal and will be more likely to vote based on other issues.

at least that's the only explanation I can see for the timidity of political leaders when a majority of people actually realize how stupid prohibition is.

There are medical uses. HOWEVER most people I know that have a card don't need it for a legitimate medical reason. And the few that do have a medical reason to use it use it even when that reason isn't occurring. Also what kind of prescription says "use as much as you want for a year." It's a joke, I wish we'd just drop the wink and a nod and legalize it.

Well you need state ID for the physician, he isn't going to give a KY resident access to CT legalized pot. If you came up with a fake ID to provide to the prescribing doctor though, at least here in CA, I bet you COULD obtain your license and obtain medicine from dispensaries and delivery services. They only check that you have a state ID and a current medical cannabis recommendation.

Keep in mind, this is a bit of a hassle, driving to other states, chances are there's a bunch of pot in your city anyway.

Not a completely fake ID, rather your info imposed on the state for native medical cannabis... The $20 fake ID websites could probably pull that kind of thing off easily.

Yeah from my understanding this was going to only be for serious conditions like cancer, hiv/aids, etc. It's not gonna be like cali where you get your lifetime medical card for falling down smowboarding.

This will always exist. I get more the sense that you might not have a hard time finding a doctor to prescribe it to you, probably more of an access of obtaining the drug after you get written a prescription, mostly because of the fear of the federal crackdown. Who wants to risk their whole legit pharmacy being shut because they are selling pot.

I wish this was the case, but I doubt it. He already made the promise NOT to crackdown on CA's legal dispensaries. So he took the political fallout at the time he said it, and if he'd left it alone no one would have anything else to say. Now it's a broken promise to a state that he already knows he's going to win, with no ramifications outside of the state because it's not like the raids are in the national spotlight. In otherwords he isn't convincing the prudish mother in OH to vote for him because he's keeping the drugs away from her snowflakes. I seriously don't get the point of the raids because they are seemingly random, it's not like they are trying to shut down all the pot shops, just scare them? But I also don't understand why he signed a re-up on the patriot act.

If I was the republican party I would take a stance of more personal freedom, move toward national legalization with local options on criminalization/restriction (like booze), and steal the gay rights thunder from the democrats by killing off DoMA. Basically steal issues that the democrats are afraid to touch because they fear losing southern democrats (and that some prominent republicans already endorse). It's not like the republicans will lose votes, fundies will still vote R, because the other guy is a "muslim' terrarist."

I suffer from severe chronic joint (heh) pain. A whole lot of years in the Infantry destroyed my knees, a shoulder, and both hands. I pop Aleve like they are M&Ms. Getting home from work and rolling one after a shower would be SO awesome.

But since I'm a truck driver I have the Federal DOT rules I have to follow, and they've made it VERY clear that even if you have a prescription if you smoke pot you'll lose you're license.

As someone that will be moving to CT in the somewhat near future, this makes me happy.

I hate to break everyone's heart, but Obama's proposed 2013 budget will actually ramp up the war on drugs even further.

Like it or not, the fight to end the war on drugs continues on the state level.
