Phil Collins (yeah, that one) is one of the world's foremost experts on The Alamo, still hopes to find its basement someday

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent.

I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe.

Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress.

In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole.

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it.

But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

They came at night leaving fear behind
Shadows along the ground.
Oh nobody knew where to find him
No evidence was found.
I'm never coming back
They heard him cry
And I believe him.
Well he never meant to do anything wrong
It's gonna get worse if he waits too long.

Billy
Billy don't you lose my number
'Cos you're not anywhere that I can find you.
Oh no Billy
Billy don't you lose my number
'Cos you're not anywhere that I can find you.

I can't help but wonder if Phil and Ozzy discussed that incident after this gig.

11/10! Epic!

By the way, I think I saw you in the expensive floor seats at one of the 2007 reunion shows. You were fidgeting and frowning for two-thirds of it?

The Alamo was constructed uniquely and the officer's quarters were marked with only even numbers - because they were against all odds...

"Singer Phil Collins says there are always more sides to a story, even in Texas history."

That is a hanging offense in the Lone Star State.

On that fateful day, Davy Crockett woke up and walked from his bunk on the floor of the Alamo up to the observation post on the west wall.

William B. Travis and Jim Bowie were up there already. The three gazed at the hordes of Mexicans moving steadily towards them.

Crockett turned to Bowie with a puzzled look on his face and said, "Jim, are we landscaping today?"

There must be some misunderstanding, Like it or not, Phil should just go live in a home by the sea. That's just the way it is. He's throwing it all away. Anyway, Supper's ready. Take me home.
