I've never seen it, and I don't really have any interest in seeing it. However, the fact that they've embraced Community by allowing Abed to appear on the show, and lent their actors to Community, means I'm ok with it being on the air.

The creators and many of the crew are very good friends. They support each other on Twitter all the time.

If you've never watched it, give it a shot. It's a good, quality show and you'll like it if you like Scrubs. If you didn't like the Scrubs style, chances are you won't care for it as much.

Cougar Town's a comedy? I thought it was like... Desperate Housewives meets Sex in the City.

That's exactly why they want ABC to change the name of the show. Nobody gets that the title is completely irrelevant to what it actually is, and the title just sounds... stupid? But the struggle is they can't come up with anything better and they're afraid of confusing the audience with a name change mid-series.

With the amount of alcohol they drink on that show, you'd think it would be a Fark favorite.

If you've never seen it, you are missing out on a great show. It stopped being about "cougars" about six episodes in and morphed into aa ensemble screwball comedy which took all the good parts of Friends, Scrubs, and Arrested Development. Since season 2 the show has mocked its own no-longer-applicable title in the opening credits like a Simpsons chalkboard gag. And then they made fun of the fact that they were doing a Simpsons chalkboard gag. It's a very geek-friendly show with a sappy, sentimental side. If it weren't for the unfortunate title, it would be a much bigger hit.

Here's how good I think it is. If I had a choice of another season of Cougartown or another season of Firefly, I'd pick Cougartown. No contest, and I love Firefly.

What is it about the six episode mark? The Office and Parks and Rec both had six episodes of suck before they got good. Dollhouse got good either during or right after episode six. Same with the Doctor Who reboot.

Apparently, that's how long it takes for the writers and actors to find their footing?

According to Netflix, I'd like Cougar Town based on the fact that I also liked Scrubs, Better Off Ted, and...Dollhouse.

I loved Doctor Who from the first new episode, but I see your point. Some shows need a few episodes to see what works and what doesn't. With this show, the ensemble parts worked, the "cougar" parts didn't, and they quickly course corrected.

You think a guy in a $5,000 suit is worried about being sacrilegious?

It's a geeky show. Not in a Big Bang Theory level, more of a How I Met Your Mother. Still, it's there. One episode this season revolved around the way Tom Cruise runs in every movie, and it set up a great "Little Mermaid" scene at the end. If you think it's just about the dating life of Courtney Cox, you are missing so much.

It's a Bill Lawrence show. According to him when he was on WTF with Marc Maron, it was just a joke that picked up steam, he said he could purposely pitch a garbage premise and a network would eat it up, and they did. Soon as they started making it he started retooling it. He hates the title and was going to change it but realized that people with DVRs set to record ever episode wouldn't automatically record with a name change, so instead they openly mock it.

It's a great show and aside from the first few episodes has nothing to do with cougar behavior.

Cougar Town is a lot better than its title implies. That long hiatus didn't do it any favors. ABC has pretty much given up on the show.

Better than Firefly?! Okay, that's just crazy talk right there. Cougartown was an okay enough show, but it's showing all the signs of imminent cancellation: two main characters are getting married, the son went off to college to open up new comedic avenues, subtle personality quirks that characters had in the first season are now full-blown and completely insane obsessions that change the characters from semi-realistic oddballs to absurd cartoon characters. All we need need now is Ted McGinley moving in as the wacky new neighbor to make it official: Cougartown is done.

Also, even with the joke pitch premise, it's actually got a decent undercurrent of satire of that subset of Florida culture. The town is modeled on Sarasota, and it's pretty spot on, even down to the slacker kid going off to college nearby because they just can't quite leave the nest. And if you go out drinking in downtown Sarasota, it's like you're surrounded by background characters from the show. Not to mention that the main characters are all the sorts of people that I'd routinely have to deal with when I was working in retail at the high-end mall in Sarasota.

There are shows that cater to the malaise of bored men in committed relationships, but Cougartown is the only show that focuses on a female in the same role. It is basically a bunch of people over 40, whom television never looks at unless they are wacky parents, and portrays them in a human way. They are real people with real lives to live, and Cougartown is the only show on TV that shows us this absurd and hilarious world.

#neither a female nor in my 40's

Ditto. On a side note, finally after 37 years of life I have convinced my wife to watch Doctor Who. The funniest thing is I think you could get some serious exercise if you were to run every time they did. My wife watched the first episode of the first season of the reboot and picked up on that right away

Early on, they made a lot more about Courtney Cox's character being a "cougar" and dating younger men, but the show moved away from that angle fairly quickly.

You do realize that Married with Children lasted 11 seasons, right? In case you forgot, Ted McGinley was cast as Marcy's new husband and the show didn't immediately tank. The Ted McGinley meme died out in the 90's. He doesn't kill shows anymore. (A point they made in the incredibly awesome series finaly of Batman: Brave in the Bold when Batmite replaced the usual voice of Aquaman with McGinley.)

The cast of Firefly, on the other hand, has a pretty good show killing track record. Just about every one of them has killed a show or two. And while you might point out that Nathan Fillion stars in Castle, may I remind you that he was in the quickly-cancelled Fox show drive.

Summer Glau and Nathan Fillion sure, absolutely, are Nielson poison. Ron Glass has had his lows (The Black "New" Odd Couple) but also some great heights (Barney Miller). Adam Baldwin had a steady paycheque for a few years with Chuck. Suburgatory is anticipated to be renewed, so Alan Tudyk is OK.

Explain to me how the fact that McGinley was on the series finale of Batman proves that he doesn't kill shows anymore.

Because it was a planned finale and they brought him in to make fun of the trope. It doesn't count if it's meta.
