| Because People in power are Stupid Tucson has a weird smell to it. There used to be tanneries there and the whole town has that lingering sulfur (aka fart) smell. You can't capture that on camera. Suck it skynet. |

| Walker "We have a strict policy in place for what it's used for. Who uses the camera and the monitoring of it. It's pretty well spelled out to employees." Oh. Well that should prevent any wrongdoing then. There's a strict policy that teachers shouldn't f*ck their students either, and we never hear about that happening. |

| ecmoRandomNumbers Can't wait til they send Patty Weissbot back into the past. |

| Godscrack Yeah. And police will use the cameras too. You know, since there already there and stuff. /public safety //the children |

Funny how tfa didn't say a single thing about watching brown people walking around that need their papers checked. |

Surprised me a bit, since I remember hearing once that Hispanics were a straight up majority down here. / Might have been old data |

We could get one Tucson station on our antenna. Then I saw her again when I was at U of A. When I was a kid, she had Edward James Olmos's complexion. *shudder* |

I saw this today whilst reading the morning (online) paper and immediately had a sad. This kind of stupid really deserves the attention that only a weekday Fark audience can provide. |

Clemons said he's not aware of any negative legal ramifications of having the system in place. "Anybody can put up a camera. It's what you do with that camera," Clemons said. "We have a strict policy in place for what it's used for. Who uses the camera and the monitoring of it. It's pretty well spelled out to employees." Clemons said there was fierce debate at KVOA over whether or not to stick with the Skynet name, which happens to match that of the evil artificial intelligence organization that battles humanity in the "Terminator" films. "The line we kept coming back to was that was a movie; this is not," Clemons said. Christ you guys are blind. Fierce debate my ass. You went and did it anyway and told your employees to suck it. I wonder what your maintenance costs are going to look like in a year when people start taking the cameras out. About the cost of two live mouth breathing reporter's salaries? |

It's the "Welcome to Tucson smell our poo!" when you come in to town on I-10 going west because of the sewage plant. Love how KVOA uses the term "Skynet" Knowing it is Tucson someone is looking into the Skynet issue to take down the cameras. |

Ninety-five would be called "5 below," 100 degrees would be "Zero," and 118 would just be "It's only 18 degrees!" |

demaL-demaL-yeH: I had no idea that there were so many Baked Pueblo residents on Fark. *hoists a Nimbus A-1* Cheers. Heck yeah. Haven't tried the A1 yet, but it's on my list. There are at least a few Tucson farkers. I've tried to figure out whether it's enough to warrant a Fark party at some date in the near future. I've heard reports from people who tried to set one up in towns this size. Apparently the Fark turnout often gets dwarfed by the regular bar turnout, and the mgmt doesn't effectively convey the event info to the bartenders on duty, who are left wondering why a half dozen weirdos keep asking about something called a "fart party." |

sonorangal: Nahhh. It's the "Welcome to Tucson smell our poo!" when you come in to town on I-10 going west because of the sewage plant. I used to live near 1st and Prince, and there were times you could smell it all the way out there (about four miles crowwise). Every time we drive past it on I-10, my wife accuses me of ripping a fart because she forgets that it's there. |

And according to the article another local TV station, KOLD 13 has its own camera network. I tried to investigate but this old computer is too obsolete and weak to handle such advanced technology; once I've had enough coffee I'll find the newer laptop. |

The One True TheDavid: And according to the article another local TV station, KOLD 13 has its own camera network. I tried to investigate but this old computer is too obsolete and weak to handle such advanced technology; once I've had enough coffee I'll find the newer laptop. I think that KOLD's camera network is primarily composed of fixed-location lower-resolution cams, posted along the freeway and on towers in rural areas, and used primarily to show traffic and weather conditions. Their cameras send back a lot of pics like this: ![]() I think KVOA's "Skynet" is supposed to be much higher resolution, remotely controllable, and positioned to give street views in urban areas. Or, at least that's how they're trying to sell it. |
