| bdub77 Do not care. For the rest of human civilization we can just call the country There Be Dragons and be done with it. Time to get out. Karzai can EABOD. |
||
| MaudlinMutantMollusk Ironic? /I think we need a "Predictable" tag |
||
| I_Am_Weasel How could they get to him, the Afghans should have been blanketing the area with tight knit coverage, this will throw things into chaos. |
||
| Ambivalence It wasn't our gunmen was it? THAT would be embarrassing. /DNRTFA. |

| namatad That part of the world has ALWAYS been the end of civilization. Always will be. Fun though, the taliban got rid of the heroin. we got rid of the taliban and BOOM, the heroin is back. LOL Do you know what would solve this problem? Legalize all drugs. Once there is no money in drugs, afghanistan can go back to being just another shiat hole. |

From the BBC article: Police say that Mr Rahmani was shot dead on Sunday morning by an unidentified gunman while on his way to work in western Kabul, in what was described as a carefully planned attack. Gunmen driving a white Toyota Corolla fired a single bullet using a silencer, the BBC's Bilal Sarwary in Kabul reports. "Mr Rahmani was shot in his heart and died instantly. His nephew, who was also his driver, didn't even realise he had been shot," Kabul police chief Gen Ayub Salangi told the BBC. Who the fark shot him, James Bond? |

Or better yet, legalize all drugs but only in Afghanistan. Legalizing drugs just means it'll be the pharmaceutical companies controlling the guns, instead of the religious nuts. There will always be money in drugs. |

Creating land wars with afghanistan and east asians should be outlawed unless the use of nukes is agreed upon. We use the 'hearts and minds' technique, to no avail, while the Soviets, with a technologically advanced army, would throw whole villages into ditches filled with gasoline and set afire. To no avail. No superpower or any country for that matter, can win against a people born into war. \end rant |

bdub77: Do not care. For the rest of human civilization we can just call the country There Be Dragons and be done with it. Time to get out. Karzai can EABOD. I love the attitude of entitled American douchebags. Fark up the country for 30 years then get pissed when your chaos bites you in the ass eventually. It's the typical attitude of citizens of colonial countries. |

Tyranicle: can win against a people born into war. You mean colonial super powers create chaos and then are shocked when the people don't know peace? One of the hubs of ancient trade routes has always known war because the people in charge of those routes always wanted war. Don't blame the people. The goal was never about hearts and minds, the type of war, the number of troops, the policies, the hatred of Christian America of Islam that they made loud and clear, sending ignorant back country hicks to a country they could never even today find on a map. The wars the past decade have been about angry revenge and fascist Christianity. |

Yes, so ironic that a region that only wants war, only knows war, and will always have only war would bring a violent death to someone who wanted only peace. So so ironic. Like raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain on your wedding day kind of ironic. |

The Afghans are a resillient people who've had the displeasure of not only being placed squarely whithin trade routes, but now, as luck would have it, they're being placed squarely whithin pipeline routes. |

One shot, with a silenced pistol, at a moving vehicle, and it kills the guy instantly? Who would even try something that tough? More logical: Driver kills the negotiator, white Toyota then drives by, shoots in the air, and takes the blame. That's a hell of a lot easier. |

I'd say andrewmoriarty has identified the most likely suspects: the ISI. From the Associated Press, May 13, 2012 -- "Agha Jan Motasim, a member of the Taliban leadership council known as the Quetta Shura, condemned Rahmani's assassination. "He was a good Muslim. He was a nationalist and worked for an Islamic system in Afghanistan. We respected him." " From the VOA, May 14, 2012 -- Fear of India Drives Pakistani Support for Militants |

| Curious In separate news, U.K. officials announced that two British servicemen were shot by members of the Afghan police force minerals notwithstanding it's past time to leave. screw the most recent deal. soak the poppy fields in agent orange, pack up whatever we decide to bring home and leave. the people will only be marginally worse off and we will save billions. |

For at least five thousand years being invaded is Afghanistan's business model. Their chief industry is recycling the gear of the fallen. |

Screws up the whole 'talking' thing, tends to get more of your people killed for no gain. Remember, the Taliban have goals, and this dude was one way to achieve them, even if he couldn't/wouldn't give them everything. |

More logical: Driver kills the negotiator, white Toyota then drives by, shoots in the air, and takes the blame. That's a hell of a lot easier. TFA: "'He (Rahmani) was stuck in heavy traffic when another car beside him opened fire,' said General Mohammad Zahir, head of the investigations unit for Kabul police." The use of a silencer and a single shot seems to imply it was somebody with a lot of training, certainly not impossible though. Go read Inside Delta Force; beyond learning what SpecOps can do, it's a pretty awesome book. There are also quite a few books on the SEALs, including SEAL Team 6, that are very illuminating--this is no secret, but it's been widely claimed that when Dick Marcinko lead Team 6 (he was their first commanding officer), their budget for target practice ammo was greater than that of the entire U.S. Marine Corps. ISI sounds like a reasonable guess when you consider who has the most to gain from a breakdown in negotiations and the amount of training and resources it would take to plan and pull off that sort of assassination. |
