| Earguy Let's make this loud and clear: This is a mental health issue, not a hearing issue. You want a real hearing issue: Superior canal dehiscence. Those poor people can hear their eyes moving in their heads. |

I'm pretty sure my mother has this too. She can't stand any music or loud sounds. Outright hatred may be a bit overblown, but the only sounds she can really enjoy are the talking heads on MSNBC. |

I'm super sensitive to sound, too, though perhaps not as sensitive at the lady in TFA. The only way I can "tune out" noises is to take a shiat-ton of Adderall and focus on something else. It's so bad, that I have to close the doors to both bathrooms when I'm alone in the apartment with the T.V. off or at night when everyone else is asleep because the bathrooms have clocks whose ticks are very audible to me. My husband claims he has to be within a foot of the clocks to hear them ticking, but I seriously can hear them three rooms away. It's maddening. My shrink blames my ADHD. He says my brain can't always sort out what it needs to focus on, so it often focuses on something (like sound) that's relatively unimportant. \Yeah, I spent a great deal of time wearing noise-attenuating headphones and earplugs \\I can't write on ruled (lined) paper for the same reason: I can't "tune out" those fine blue lines...they're the optical equivalent of ticking clocks to me. |

| RexTalionis medius: RexTalionis: Earguy: Those poor people can hear their eyes moving in their heads. Eh, are you not supposed to hear that? can you hear the grasshopper that is at your feet? There are no grasshoppers at my feet. Why? Because I flood my apartment with sodium hexafluoride. It's denser than air so it sinks to the floor and is pooled around knee height. It suffocates any vermin or pests that might get into my apartment. |
