TIL that Oakland is not in the Bay Area. My bad. I thought the, I don't know, San Francisco Bay being right there at the Port of Oakland might have qualified Oakland for Bay Area status, but I guess not. |

Hopefully they change their name to San Fran. "Golden State" is so bush league. |

Golden State Warriors are somehow the one NBA team I keep forgetting exists, probably exactly because of its unconventional name. |

Warriors fans are pretty damn passionate and loyal to a team that shoots itself in the foot every chance it gets. Probably some of the best fans in the NBA, and without question the most boneheaded front office ever. Most of those fans won't be attending games in SF, as it will be too expensive, the parking will be a nightmare, and the casual gamewatchers will take over (much like AT&T Park and the Giants since the move from the Stick). |

My buddy Tino is that one fan...he will be thrilled seeing as he just moved back to San Fran 2 years ago. |

You forget that AT&T Park is near the 4th & King Caltrain stop. I'll probably start going to a few games a year now that it's much more accessible for me. /Haven't been to a game since LeBron's rookie year //Jason Terry was the star of the Hawks |

I remember some buzz-cut guy named Chris was real good a few years' back, but I never bothered to look up to find out exactly what city the GSWs were playing in. /Learned something new today //Clocks out |

That sucks for the Golden State die hards. I always heard those guys were pretty nuts about their team. |

The BART only goes southeast as far as Fremont or Millbrae. So for me, I either have to drive to Fremont to board the BART there or take the Caltrain to Millbrae then ride the BART to Oracle (involves at least one switch). LIke I said, it will be much more convenient for me, and I plan to take advantage of this. Anyways, GS might actually have a fairly starting 5 next season. I look forward to Biedrins contract receiving the amnesty treatment. |

This will be a nightmare if the Warriors and Giants are playing on the same night. They want to put this at Pier 30/32, which is only about 4 blocks from AT&T. The one or two MUNI stations right there are going to be jam packed ALL. THE. TIME. BART is a good 30 minute hike away and parking is non-existent in that part of the Embarcadero. Presumably, this will allow the complete destruction of Oracle Arena and the construction of a new Raiders stadium. Then, the Silver and Black will be the only game in Oakland. |

Further, its not the W's/Giants playing on the same night that should be worried about (which will rarely happen), its the big concerts that the new arena will inevitable attract. even still, this is a great thing for the city, and transit options will be perfectly adequate for the most part. |

Okay, this is the thing thats REALLY pissing me off about the whole situation. San Francisco does not want anything to do with the 49ers anymore (not putting up any money for a new stadium) but Ed Lee is more than happy to grab ankles for the Warriors? The last time they went to the playoffs was two years ago, whereas the Niners hosted the GODDAMNED NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME last season! WTF is up with that? |

From what I understand, the city of SF only coughed up the land for this project. The actual arena will cost $500 million and will be privately funded. For the 49ers stadium, the city of Santa Clara is coughing up $850 million in order for this deal to happen. It sounds like the only ones grabbing ankles is the city of Santa Clara. |

A 19k capacity arena is much smaller than a 75k capacity stadium is. I don't think there is the real estate in SF to support a new giant stadium that would be needed by the NFL. It sucks that the 9ers are leaving though. If you think Golden State Warriors doesn't exactly roll off of the tongue just think about the San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara. I am stoked that the Warriors are moving to SF, they are going to be right around the corner from my work. I can walk to AT&T Park or the new arena for a Warriors game. |

The last time they went to the playoffs was two years ago, whereas the Niners hosted the GODDAMNED NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME last season! WTF is up with that? Nobody is grabbing ankles here. NFL/York - Build us a stadium with public money that hosts 10 games (including 2 preseason) per year and isn't too useful for much else. NBA/Lacob - Give us a sweetheart lease on the land, and we'll privately finance the rebuilding of a crumbling, decrepit pier in the heart of the city, and build an arena that will host 41 basketball games (minimum) per year, plus concerts, conventions, and several other things the rest of the year. As for the transit aspect, not only is BART a short walk away, but the new TransBay center will be 2 blocks away, as well. |

What kind of moron thinks the Bay Area doesn't have basketball fans? Seriously, Warriors fans are still showing up despite the fact that they have been inept for almost two decades. |
||
| TheJoe03
I also agree with the poster that said that the fans are less likely to go into SF for a game. It's easier for people in SF and SJ to get to Oracle but I doubt it would be as convenient and easy for Oakland and SJ people to get to downtown SF. |

Hopefully the Warriors will be competitive by then. I completely ignored the team this year after the Ellis trade |

It will be an automatic, probably multi -night booking for every major arena tour. I doubt Oakland would ever host another arena size show unless dates conflicted. I'll bet that shiathole in Mountain View takes a beating as well. The freaking Cow Palace was booked solid for years and that was a terrible location. |

TheJoe03: What about the shiat ton of people in the south bay? I went to a game in Oracle this season and it was convenient as hell to get there. There's 2 freeways going from the south bay to SF, both of which drop off right by this site, and they aren't really any worse than the 880. There won't be one massive sea of parking like the Coliseum, but there are a lot of lots nearby. Not trying to be too much of a cheerleader, here, but if anything this site is easier to reach from just about anywhere in the Bay Area. And when you walk out of the game, your food/drink/entertainment options are kinda slightly better in SF than the southern edge of Oakland. |

I'm glad the Warriors aren't asking taxpayers to foot the bill. It seems like they've got some shred of decency from time to time, even if they're not very good at basketball-related things. |

chechcal: There's 2 freeways going from the south bay to SF, both of which drop off right by this site, and they aren't really any worse than the 880. Yes they are. Oakland is not only closer but it has less traffic, since the arena is in south Oakland. Driving into downtown SF is a bigger hassle. You're right about everything else though. |

For the people chastising the Golden State name, think of this: would you want to admit you are from Oakland? Or worse, admit that some of your fans are Raiders fans? |

When I was a young Smails Kid growing up in a vowel state in the midwest, I had a vague notion that the California Angels and the Golden State Warriors were based somewhat near each other. I mean, they were each the state team of California for their respective sports, were they not? |

I know this is a big if, but if Bogut and Curry could stay healthy next year, this team could be electric. Klay Thompson is the real deal, and they should have the cap room for a quality SF with Biedrins amnestied. |

they will also be renamed to the Golden State "Rainbow" Warriors to fit the regional ideals. |
