| bdub77 Between this and Bennett you can tell the GOP is quietly putting the screws on their officials on the whole "Obama is not American" routine. It's not flying well with most of America and is probably just sending people the message that the GOP really has completely lost their sh*t. This stuff is coming from the top of the party, probably Romney himself. Romney is not McCain, he won't say publicly that he believes Obama is an American, that would offend his base of crazies. He'll just quiet the speculation in secret. |

bdub77: Between this and Bennett you can tell the GOP is quietly putting the screws on their officials on the whole "Obama is not American" routine. It isn't going to work. I only takes one DNC troll to post a statement like, "You know, Obama never really proved he was an American", on the Freeper site and the "issue" is reborn. |

| LouDobbsAwaaaay "I don't believe the President shares my belief in American Exceptionalism. His policies reflect a philosophy that America is but one nation among many equals," the statement read. GOOD. The philosophy of American Exceptionalism has been holding us back for too long as it is. An unwavering belief in your own perfection makes innovation impossible. You can glorify yourself straight into irrelevance. |

I believe America is unique and based on a core set of principles that make it superior to other nations. If America practiced those principles it would be "better" than other nations. /pride kills |

| someonelse bdub77: Between this and Bennett you can tell the GOP is quietly putting the screws on their officials on the whole "Obama is not American" routine. The crazy rhetoric spewed by people at some of the McCain events in 2008 really helped tank that campaign, because it gave the impression that a) Palin was fueling it, and b) she was as mentally unhinged as the craziest elements in the party's base. Since that fringe holds such disproportionate sway over the party, I predict that its inability to even pretend to be sane for short periods of time will have a similar effect on the 2012 campaign. |

I'm sure you'd say this to the leaders of all the countries you have to deal with if you had the opportunity. That's why I know it isn't just some cheap politicking talking point that doesn't actually mean anything that you use to attack your political enemy. Hopefully some day you'll be the president and you can tell the leaders of all the countries you need to negotiate with how superior you think we are to them. I'm sure you'll get your way every time. |

"As a Marine, I believe America is unique and based on a core set of principles that make it superior to other nations This is called realism. It's reasonable to accept that you will be told that your country is better if you're going to go sit on bomb in its name. As a Marine, you should also understand unquestioning loyalty to your Commander in Chief, as he's been elected by ~25% of the populace and remains your superior anyway. American exceptionalism flies in the face of realism. It's nostalgia and it breeds idleness. We're not on top of the world any more. We got lucky and had some economic dominance for decades, and that lingers, but it's not going to last forever just because you want it to. |
||

You can glorify yourself straight into irrelevance. Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious. It's time we move beyond the blind "America: Fark Yeah" version of national pride and take a more measured view of ourselves and our country. We are a great nation, but we have the capacity to be far greater. |

The specific term "American exceptionalism" was first used in 1929 by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin chastising members of the Lovestone-led faction of the American Communist Party for the heretical belief that America was independent of the Marxist laws of history "thanks to its natural resources, industrial capacity, and absence of rigid class distinctions." Although the term does not necessarily imply superiority, many neoconservative and American conservative writers have promoted its use in that sense. To them, the United States is like the biblical "shining city on a hill," and exempt from historical forces that have affected other countries. |

He's not claming Obama is American, It's just that liberals don't believe in American EXCEPTIONALISM* !!! * But don't you dare try to pursue actual exceptionalism, because that makes you an out of touch, Euro loving elitist. You'll watch your American Idol and vacation in Branson and eat your pre-frozen jalepeno poppers at TGIF McFunsters and listen to your Clint Black albums and mire yourself in mediocrity, like the rest of us, dammit. |

By the way, in case anyone is interested, this "Repeat the talking point and say nothing else" strategy is the new PR-firm way of saying "No Comment", except without as many negative connotations to it. If you refuse to engage, and just go on a tape loop, then the press is forced to only print what you say, and the negative publicity dies down because the public has absolutely nothing new to go on. It's when you actually try to explain what you meant that you get into trouble, because then you are forced to be honest. And you keep the initial issue fresh. //For no particularly good reason, my company once sent me to a 'how to do corporate press' training class. That's how I know this. |

| biyaaatci I truly wish that, after the election and the official inauguration, President Obama would cleanly and articulately say something along these lines: My fellow Americans, what you've heard about me is true. I am a socialist. I am a Marxist. I am a secret Muslim and a member of the Black Panther Party. I hate all that good, decent white Americans stand for. Due to my inescapably obvious evil, I was abandoned by my good Christian mother and reared by a secret cabal of leftists, including, but not limited to: George Soros, Bill Ayers, the ACORN organization, Fidel Castro, Kim Jong-Il, Ho Chi Minh, Mao Tze-Tung, Nikita Khrushchev, Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, Malcolm X, and Jane Fonda. After years of painstaking labor, waiting for the proper moment to strike, they stole the vote from good, hard-working Americans in 2008- to instill their combined, singular vision of a socialist nightmare, beholden only to those ivory tower elitists and minority thugs to whom this country stood in opposition through its sheer, unbridled greatness. I am here today to tell you that the America you know is gone forever. Due to your inability to see me for what I really am, I now have complete control over your pathetic lives. Effective immediately, the effective tax rate will be raised to 95 percent. All schoolchildren will be taught to worship no god but Karl Marx, and by extension- Me. As I speak, the secret police force I have assembled over the past four years will be knocking at your door and seizing all of your firearms. There is no escape. I have the power of Hollywood, the mainstream media, the unions, and college campuses behind me. All beer will now be imported from Europe. All of our nation's wealth will be sent to the most radical Muslim organizations and nations on the planet. The fruit of your labor will be used against you, and you will never know peace. Now that I have revealed my entire plan to you, I can reveal the truth of my past. I was born in Hawaii. Idiots. Good night, and may God Damn America. |
