| CygnusDarius There are worse cases of crazy. This is just quirky. |

Usually near very large crosses with people tied to them on the side of the highway. CSB time: A long time ago on Good Friday, I was hitchhiking from Richmond VA to spend the weekend with friends. I was in the middle of nowhere at a crossroads and I saw signs for a restored confederate gun embankment overlooking the James River called Fort Darling. Since I'm a history buff, I decided to take a look at the fort. When I got there I came upon three huge crosses with guys tied to them wearing nothing but loin cloths with about 50 or so people looking on in some sort of religious frenzy. Scared the crap out of me and I very quietly back tracked to the highway. A few years later, I revisited Fort Darling. Pretty cool without the crucified men. |

Everybody's an artist. This is why we like drawing on the back doors of dirty vans and peeing in the snow. |
||
| xanadian We've got a place nearby in Houlton, ME, on top of what's known as "Drake's Hill." There's a guy who did all these wooden sculptures. Most of them aliens. He has the front fenced in like an old-time Wild West fort. At one point, he had SO MANY whacked-out "sculptures" that the town ordered him to get rid of them and pay a fine. Side note: across the street from him, a megachurch is going up. Guess who did the complaining about the sculptures. /csb |

It is better than North Dakota. |

Always liked that place and near the 1800's town where a skeleton man walks his dinosaur. Those little bits of humanity break up the five hours of boredom between Sioux Falls and Rapid CIty. |

"If anyone builds one bigger, I'll know about it," Porter said. "And if they did, they're crazy. I'm not going to argue with them." Wise words indeed. |

I see your giant bulls head and raise you: The big ass on pedestal, off I-85 in South Carolina. ![]() Seems to go with the "a sprayed behind is a clean behind" ad off to the right. |

After earning degrees in political science and history from South Dakota State University, he returned to the town of less than 200 to become a sheep rancher and help Dad in the shop. Thats awesome. I admire anyone who studies anything that isn't directly applicable to their work/career but does so just to be educated. Even better he didn't try to find a job with his liberal arts degree. /Philosophy BA holder //Work in Education and Software dev //Hooray for a well rounded education! |

| bionicjoe What kind of insane jackasses would build a huge bull statue on a major thoroughfare? I'm certainly glad people like this aren't running governments or managing large sums of money. ![]() /GIS "wall street bull statue" |

(Yea I'm looking at you submittard) So you're going go all snobby and call me submittard on my very first green light ever? :51 into the video he says "do I look crazy to you?", and I thought it was funny. /I live close by these sculptures, and I met Wayne Porter once at his park. He's a nice guy and he's not crazy. But thanks for bestowing your wisdom on my post. |

| Current Resident What's wrong with giant sculptures near a highway? |

| WarszawaScream I really kind of want to go there now. Never thought I'd want to do anything in South Dakota other than look for dinosaur bones in the Badlands. |

WarszawaScream: I really kind of want to go there now. Never thought I'd want to do anything in South Dakota other than look for dinosaur bones in the Badlands. South Dakota can be quite pretty, even before the Badlands. But it isn't big on good ethnic restaurants outside of the major metropolitan areas, of which there aren't any. |

Sioux Falls: Sanaa's has excellent Mediterranean food. Lots of good family-owned Mexican around town. Shahi Palace India Grill is very good and cheap too. Lam's Vietnamese has 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor, but I haven't been there yet. I hear it's awesome. We're a small town, so there aren't a lot of choices - but there are some good ones. |
