Worst. Controller. Ever. Otherwise kickass system. Some buddies and I once pulled an all nighter trying to get all the unlockables for Soul Calibre. And Rez, man oh man, it's not a game, it's an interactive LSD trip. |

I saved up a year (8th grade) to purchase a Dreamcast at launch. No games, just the system. A month later, I got Sonic Adventure. Two weeks after that, finally a VMU. The poor system gave out after 9.5 years of use, during an A-rank run through of Metal Harbor in Sonic Adventure 2. /pso and jgr for the win though |

Came to comment on the lack of Skies of Arcadia, see it's been taken care of already. Well done. /good list otherwise |

List fails without Fire Pro Wrestling. |

| sure haven't
Shenmue Soul Caliber That roller blading game Sonic of course NHL 2k2 was great, but probably doesn't fit in lists like these as its more of a general title, not a "Dreamcast" game. Oh man such great memories. /DNRTFA. |

Gotdamn. I had completely forgotten about Sword of the Berserk. I hadn't read the Manga (or heard of it) when it came out so I passed it over. I think I might have to fire up an emulator and check that out. Amazing art work in the series, but damn if the author doesn't take their frelling time putting out new chapters (and takes a copious amount of holidays). A sidetracking in the story leaves you with a 2 month gap of wondering WTF. This also reminds me that the new OVA should be coming already out. |

I played the shiat out of sword/beserk. Jet Grind Radio, that was the roller blade one! Also, the space dance game, ha oh man. So many memories. |

Power Stone is on the list, so I will not firebomb the I-Mockery offices. ...not today. |

A retro game article without a single screenshot of any of the game mentioned? Who gives a fark about the box art of games for a system most people never owned? |

I had every game on that lists, and every game mentioned in this thread. The Dreamcast really should have had SOME form of copy protection, but thank God it didn't. |
||
| Cybernetic
I think I had one of those, and had Soul Calibur for it. Unless I'm misremembering. |

Jet Grind Radio gameplay Jet Set Radio gameplay Ok now I'm confused. Anyone know the difference between Jet Set, and Jet Grind Radio? /I mean yes, I could Google it... |

Flappyhead: Controller. Ever. Otherwise kickass system. Some buddies and I once pulled an all nighter trying to get all the unlockables for Soul Calibre. And Rez, man oh man, it's not a game, it's an interactive LSD trip. FTFY Loved the Dreamcast controller. And the VMU providing the little screen in there? Genius. I wished more games had taken advantage of it. /still have my Dreamcast, 4 controllers, 4 VMU's, the keyboard and mouse adapter and the VGA monitor adapter |

Time Stalkers was fun. I wish I could get an emulator working so I could play that again. I do not feel like spending cash money just to play that game. |
||
| LS1Bird
I recently had a garage sale, and hooked my old Dreamcast up to a working TV. Along with 7 games, I priced it at $20. After the garage sale, I left it in the garage. |

sure haven't: Jet Grind Radio gameplay Jet Set Radio gameplay Ok now I'm confused. Anyone know the difference between Jet Set, and Jet Grind Radio? /I mean yes, I could Google it... Jet Grind Radio had a new level in it (the Grind Square stages). The only real reason of the name difference was because of trademark concerns in the US. /Pihranah also had a lot less clothing on in the JP version |

I am maybe 2% redneck, so my college roommates and I burned the deep sea fishing game, then went out and bought the fishing rod controller, and yeah that was pretty awesome. |

LemSkroob: That list is great if you are a weeaboo. You realize this was back in the day, when all games came from Japan, right Mr. Troll? There wasn't an 'American market' other than shovelware sponsor crap. |

The only real reason of the name difference was because of trademark concerns in the US. /Pihranah also had a lot less clothing on in the JP version Ah that all sounds familiar now that you explain it. Many thanks. I wonder how fast one could pick it back up after not playing for a decade. |

| Confabulat I still play Space Channel 5 Part 2 on my PS2. One day I'll save you, Space Michael! |

Flappyhead: Worst. Controller. Ever. Using that controller for 30 minutes hurt my wrists more than typing every day for the past 20 years. I don't know how they managed that. And what was with the cord coming out of the WRONG SIDE OF THE CONTROLLER!??!? How do decisions that poor even get made? |

No love for Seventh Cross? I played the heck out of that game, cheating the evolution grid trying to get human parts early was the best. Also when you finally make yourself able to kack those stupid crabs in the beginning. /"We apologize for the hypocracies" was the best line from that game //Check out the Evolution series of RPGs, think they got ported to GC |

Man, if you were a fan of fighting games, Dreamcast was where it was at: Street Fighter III: Double Impact and Third Strike, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, King of Fighters Dream Match 99, Powerstone 1 and 2, Soul Calibur, Super Street Fighter II Turbo X, Capcom Vs. SNK 1 and 2. I'm probably missing a few more but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.They even had a decent arcade stick after a few mods. |

Most fun game for us was NFL2K. It was a game changer. 3D and played awesome. Also had a ball with House of the Dead with the light guns. |

Still got my DC connected. Only for Typing of the Dead. Gotta admit that we don't play much though... |

Man pirating Dreamcast games was so much fun and so ridiculously easy. Great times back then. Easy pirating and uncapped cable.. Loved @HOME before Comcast bought them. |

Smackledorfer: It stays put when you stick it into the thing in the back, and if you are laying down having the cord on the bottom is nice. Is putting it into that little slot that much work for you? No, but why should I have to? It's several inches of useless cord. You know if someone at Apple tried this back in the day, Steve Jobs would have personally executed them for it. |

Well, its not useless depending on your position, and as I pointed out, it takes literally no effort to basically permanently get the cord in the holding position. So, basically what I'm hearing from you is "options are bad, and because you prefer option A over option B, it is a tragedy that you have to make a 2 second effort to pick B over the lifetime of the controller" I'm not arguing that most of the time the top-fed position isn't the better one. Maybe that should be the default, with the option of locking it in at the bottom be the alternative. But seriously, of all the farking things to complain about, that's your big issue? Everyone on earth should get a chance to slap you for your laziness in complaining about such a thing. |

My friend had Tokyo Extreme and Bass Fishing. I still haven't played a game like TE that matched the level of coolness. |

And Rez, man oh man, it's not a game, it's an interactive LSD trip. Still beats the N64. Great system though. Played grandia two last year. If you honestly believe either the Dreamcast or the N64 had the worst controller ever then you missed a TON of weird controllers in the 1980s and early 1990s. Jaguar controllers, the 3DO controller (you couldn't press diagonals even though the system supported them and at least one game required them!), Colecovision controllers (either the ones that shipped with it or the Super Action Controller), Intellivision controllers, Atari 5200 and 7800, Arcadia 2001, Balley Astrocade (what were they ever thinking on that one?), SG-1000, CD-i, Pippin, the first gen X-Box controllers that were so big most people either couldn't comfortably hold them or couldn't use them at all, and lets not forget the entire range of bizarre controllers and add ons the NES and SNES had. Seriously, there are so many that there are dedicated wikipedia articles just to list them all. NES controllers and add ons SNES controllers and add ons I'm not certain how some of those even made it past the idea phase let alone into development, testing, and then being manufactured and unleashed on the unsuspecting public. How could anybody consider making a light gun you wear on your head with a microphone for you to yell at when you shoot? MrEricSir: Smackledorfer: It stays put when you stick it into the thing in the back, and if you are laying down having the cord on the bottom is nice. Is putting it into that little slot that much work for you? No, but why should I have to? It's several inches of useless cord. You know if someone at Apple tried this back in the day, Steve Jobs would have personally executed them for it. Ummmm, yeah. This is what Apple thought was a good idea for a design for a video game controller. ![]() You can go here for more photos of the hideous beast. Pippin photos It is like the thing was designed by a committee who threw in every feature they could think of without testing the design to see if it was actually useable. The trackball in the middle is essentially unreachable if holding the controller by the grips, the mouse buttons are so close to the middle of the back of the controller that they suffer the same issue, the thumbpad was a circle so you had to kinda guess which direction you were about to hit, and the thumb buttons were unevenly spaced. |
