Nice - does this mean I have to buy yet another box set of a new version of Blade Runner sometime in the near future?

I could never get into this movie as a kid, storyline probably way above my head (only watched parts). I should really go back and watch this as an adult, I forget how far ahead it really was (in fact speaking of credit card parking meters, most cities have JUST gotten to this point in only the last couple years)

When I first saw this with friends in a huge lonely Quonset set turned movie theater, we were totally gobsmacked at this vision of the future. During a street scene, we all thanked God out loud when some Hare Krishna came singing and dancing into said scene because they were the only things familiar to us.

Its scary how prophetic so many aspects of this film were. The ideas of corporations becoming more powerful than governments, off-world mining, biorobotics, a reversion to a caste society where, despite rapid advancement of technology, the divide between the "haves" and the "little people" remains enormous.

About the only things we can't expect in 2019 that Blade Runner forecast are spinners and "basic pleasure models" as hittable as a 22 year old Darryl Hannah.

I am prepared to be shunned as a pariah by saying...

Blade Runner is amongst the worst films I have ever seen in my life. It is boring. I mean. Really really tedious. It took all my strength of will to sit through it to the end. It is predictable and stupid. I do not care about any of the characters one bit, I'm not interested in their story, it's predictable rubbish. It's only high points are the visuals.

And no, I do not like crap like "Transformers", "Avatar" or whatever latest vomitous "action movie of the week". It's not "too intelligent" for me. I'm quite happy to watch and enjoy thought provoking movies of yore and present. But Blade Runner, just isn't good. It's crap. It's so crap that like "The Emperor's New Clothes" everybody is afraid to say it's crap lest they are thought of as some uneducated dolt.

Compare Blade Runner to... 1984, or Brazil, or Stalker, or even Soylent Green.... almost any other dystopian view of the future movie, and Blade Runner is just BORING.

Brazil is my favorite film. I also love Blade Runner. Nyah.

I hate Brazil, but love Blade Runner. Dystopic atmospheres just do something for me, but Gilliam can't help himself from going too far with it. Love 12 Monkeys too, but Brazil SUUUUUUCKS!

Wow.

I'm normally fine with dissenting opinions, and I can see how some might say Blade Runner tries too hard to shoehorn a 50's hard-boiled "pulp" detective story into a techno-punk dystopia, but to call it more boring than Soylent Green? Wow.

At the very least BR was well acted and had amazing visuals that hold up even by today's standards. Soylent Green offers nothing but a mildly overused meme.
