This story made me exceptionally angry -at the judge, and the system. There are so many aspects wrong with this punitive approach.

Were I in this situation, I would feel totally justified retaliating in the extreme.

On the other hand: The judge admitted that he wanted to make an example of the teen. Tran had to spend 24 hours in jail and pay a $100 fine.

So the judge only sentenced her in order to send a stern warning to others even though he himself says the punishment is no big deal. What a bag of douches.

For the life of me, I can't understand why the court system isn't being more agressive in hunting down this girl's parents. They're the ones that thrust her into this situation in the first place by literally abandoning her and her siblings.

That's another thing that angers me about this f*cking judge. She's not your typical teenager skipping school. She's working two jobs to support her siblings, taking advanced courses at school, is an honors student and the judge wants to make an example of her? F*cking sadist!

Does he get his jollies by giving her a criminal record, even a minor one? One that may affect her ability to further her education and achieve her career goal of becoming a doctor.
