Bono's financial adviser should have told him to Walk On.

Good for him. People like him are what is wrong with the world. He has all these people making him money and then gives a pittance to in the name of helping. He has done absolutely nothing but makes himself out to be a saint.

Turning $90 million into 1.84 billion dollars is how you lose $342 million?

Why Would I Read the Article
Bono didn't really "lose" money as much as his firm just didn't make *quite* as much as they originally thought and will have to settle for nearly 2 billion, but reading his quotes in that article reminded me yet again why I can't stand that cocksucker.

That he hasn't written a song I've enjoyed since 1988 isn't helping, either.

This. Even with the facebook IPO debacle it looks like he made out like a bandit.

If you don't like Achtung Baby, you probably need to submit to a Voight Kampff test.

/Zooropa was also a great album, too.

Most or all of the people who had shares prior to the IPO did, because they bought (or otherwise received) them for far less than $30. A lot of people seem to have difficulty understanding this.

If you don't like the song "One" I question the state of your soul.
/If you haven't heard the Johnny Cash version you should check it out

Huh. That would kind of make the whole FB IPO thing look like a big, well-publicized shake down of your average, politically-unconnected rube investor. That can't be right.

Well, to be fair to the pre-IPO investors, they put their money in back when Facebook was smaller and farther from being a sure thing. Of course, you still probably had to be fairly rich and well-connected (unless you were a Facebook employee exercising stock options), but they were still taking a risk that they didn't know would turn out quite like this.

The IPO was overpriced, but early investors like Bono will "lose" accordingly. If the stock should've been $15, then when the market brings it down to that level, Bono will be worth as much as he would have been if the IPO had been $15--still a huge gain, just not the $2 billion it supposedly was on opening day.

IPOs are usually characterized by hype-driven bullshiat gains anyway. It's kind of refreshing to see it go the other way.

"In Elevation, we invest other people's money - endowments, pension funds. We do get paid of course. But you know, I felt rich when I was 20 years old and my wife was paying my bills. Just being in a band, I've always felt blessed. I got interested in technology because I'm an artist."

Oh just STFU with your self-serving bullshiat. Nobody cares that you're filthy rich, but these comments give all the evidence needed that you're a farking douchebag of the highest order.

TFA: The U2 frontman has taken steps to distance himself from reports that he has become the richest musician in the world, overtaking Paul McCartney with his new Facebook windfall.

Bono will not accept being number two.

As a percentage of my income, I donate an assload of money. As a percentage it's far more than most of these rich people that go around patting themselves on the back over what they're doing. The difference is I don't make a spectacle of it, I just do it. I also donate an assload of time, and again, I don't make a spectacle of it. I can't stand people that want to make sure that everyone knows how much time/money they donate; it shows that their intention is self-serving, rather than to better the world.

As an actual amount of money, it's jack shiat. Want to outdo the rich people? Get rich and donate more than they do. Otherwise, stop being a twat about it.

The sweetest thing about all of this is how all of these entertainment types seem to be going all in on facebook and it could very well turn out to be geocities all over again.

A rich lib would never consider charity if that couldn't do it publically

That statement is conveniently impossible to prove. I mean if they weren't doing it publicly, you would never know about it.

Give the guy credit this time...he usually clings to statements that are easy to disprove.
