| dugitman If anything, the 60 seat MRKT will benefit from the advertising and promotions MKT will have to do to promote a 700seat 15000sf frankenpub. Any confusion will probably result in more people mistakenly going to the smaller place... and hopefully liking it. |

I had my birthday dinner at a place called MK this year so I'm really getting a kick out of some of these replies. You've probably never heard of it. But, then again, fixed-gear-bike-and-cassettes-and-torn -jeans hipsters can't really afford to eat there. |

| bgddy24601 That headline made me think of MST3K. And that made me happy. So I decided to not read the article. /Big McLargeHuge //This is now an MST3K thread |

wasn't there a 3 way legal fight years ago about bagelsmith? one guy named smythe was the original and then someone actual named smith opened restaurants and said smith is my name so... then a 3rd guy said he was using smith meaning occupation so.... |

When I start my hipster eatery, its name is going to consist of a couple of brushstrokes not recognizable as any letter. |

There is nothing "hipster" about an MKT. |
||
| hamiltonjdavid Maybe the new place can get away with it if they skip the sesame seeds on their burger buns. |

"Lachance says he picked MKT because it reflects a trend in the United States toward abbreviation." Someone should tell this retard that Edmonton isn't part of the United States. Farking Albertans. |

Huck And Molly Ziegler: We need a shorter form for the word "abbreviation." abbr. is what's used in dictionaries. |

The DBS: KFC is a trendsetter? Only if they had called it KY, and I don't think anyone would eat there in that case. |

Wayne Newton, Yoko Ono, Red Green and I once ate at a restaurant who's name was the thought of a name similar to "MRKT" but actually containing negative letters. It's location was known only to five different NY cabbies; each could take you 1/5th of the way, and it was your responsibility to figure out when each five would be working on a particular night and the correct order you had to hail them in to get to your destination. The food was of course completely terrible, but the cracker packets? TO DIE FOR! |

Hilarious since pretension is the only reason someone would insist on calling one a "gastropub" instead of "bar". |

'Gastropubs' are typically slick corporate ventures. I would bet my life that MRKT has a tremendously well-researched and detailed business plan, and is acutely aware of the MKT brand -- MRKT's claim of blissful ignorance of the competition is an outrageous crock. I really, really hope MKT lawyers up with some quality muscle and puts a big dent in the coffers of the vulture capital backers of MRKT. |

Well, in defense, it has nothing to do with the pretension of the bar, nearly as much as the pretension of the customers with the money that said bar wants. So I wouldn't be so harsh on the bar. |

I like the whole pretension of thinking that serving food in a bar is some sort of fantastically unique idea. Due to Virgia's liquor laws, EVERY bar is a "gastropub" and has been for decades long before some douches in London and New York thought they were doing something original. |
