They're calling the Escape dead because of a change in engine options.

I do not know what rap stars and rich soccer mothers who both enjoy driving the Escalades will now have the driving of. Say the prayer for Omarion who would like to buy the new one of these to drive to the job of him at Sonic.

I thought they were killing the Ford Ranger and the Dodge Dakota too. It's got to the point where full size trucks can compete on price so it didn't make sense to keep them.

The Aveo is a terrible car in all respects. Somehow Fate has decided that the Aveo will be my rental car for all time.

The Mercedes R class is a rip off of the Japanese Odyssey, of which I am a very happy owner. It's a shame the form factor hasn't been widely accepted in the US. The minivan market in America is just monstrous hulk after monstrous hulk. I had hopes that when I moved back that I could at least buy an R class since I couldn't import my Odyssey.

What about the Chevy HHR? My 92 Honda just blew up so we rented an HHR while we went car shopping. I liked it so much I just bought one. Good mileage, plenty of room for tools, and a comfortable ride. I don't understand why they didn't catch on.

Stupid question, did it not make sense to import it, or is there a legal reason? Just curious.

It's a shame the Kia Sedona is going away.

I've got a 2006 with 165K miles on it and it's still going strong. Maybe that's the problem, it's too damn reliable.

So I'll buy another Kia when it's time, but I'll have to fill the void left by the Sedona. RIP, beloved minivan line...

A Honda Fit is so much more car than the Aveo it's not even a valid comparison.

Stepping even further down, the Toyota Yaris, which is comparable, is much better as well.

It's not certified for import, and to go through the hoops to bring it in would cost me more than the car is worth. More than the R class is worth, for that matter.

So how long before Mitsubishi just stops making cars? I think they only had about 5 models to begin with and now they're cutting 3 of them. They look more and more like Isuzu.

Ford recently killed off the Crown Vic and it's upscale twin, the Lincoln Town Car. These were the last of the old fashioned body on frame, front engine, rear wheel drive cars produced in America.

I'm sad to see the original Tesla Roadster go, but I hope they use this opportunity to replace the Lotus platform with something else and keep making Roadsters.

Preferably something new they design in-house, I never much cared for Lotus designs. They look too ridiculous. The Tesla S doesn't look terrible, maybe they can miniaturize that.

As I understand it, the HHR is just awful if you are taller than 5'5". Two years ago, my ex and her husband vacationed Orlando and rented one. My son and eldest granddaughter were also along and my ex and granddaughter were the only ones who were not uncomfortable in it. My ex is 5'4" and our granddaughter was 5'5" at the time, while my son is 6'2" and my ex's hubby is 6'3". It was sheer torture for them to ride in it, especially when they took a long trip to Sarasota.

The Aveo will be the second car I've ever owned that ended up getting discontinued almost immediately after I bought it (the first being the Ford Aspire). It was cheap and low-mileage (44K miles for a 2004 model), and it has awesome gas mileage. For me, it serves its purpose.

The Aspire, on the other hand, sucked.

I only know one person who had a Saturn. It was about ten years ago, and it was a great car until it wasn't. After that there was no fixing it. She had it junked and took the loss.

Oh, what could have been had Saab not been purchased by GM. The once proud, quirky-but-stout brand from Trollhattan became too integrated with GM...

It is said that all trolls should visit Trollhattan at least once in their lives.

It does. It's a great car. The American Odyssey just doesn't have the sense of style that the overseas version does.

My hope was that the R class could fill that empty space in my heart when I finally have to send my Odyssey to the glue factory. Maybe something new will come in the next 5-6 years.

For some reason, I always thought the opposite. Maybe because it was the Talon I saw first, but a little Wikipedia comparison says they were introduced in the same year. And wow, I totally forgot that Plymouth had its own version in the Laser. Which apparently debuted first, but lacked AWD until 92. Huh.

I'll miss Saab. Got a pre-pwned 2001 estate in 2005 and it is still treating me right. Has a little bit more GM stink on it than I'd prefer but is still far more solid than their later models.

Most people I imagine bought an Aveo because it was cheap. And it indeed is cheap in so many aspects: the Aveo my girlfriend and I got in New Orleans got the same mileage as larger and more powerful Japanese brands. And the A/C was weaker than what I have in the Toyota Sienna I drive at work. The Sienna's mileage is close to 178,000 and the rented Aveo was at 18,000.

So yeah, good riddance to the Aveo: I'd take a Fit or a Yaris over that heap in a heartbeat
