| cman Anyone else thought that chopper was referring to a helicopter and not a bike? |

| miss diminutive When the mother of 15 first sought political office, and told local men she wanted to connect the village to the electricity grid, they laughed. Did she say it in a funny way? Why was that funny? Do they think she's just there to amuse them? I mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little farked up maybe, but she's funny how, I mean funny like she's a clown, to amuse them? She makes them laugh, she's here to farkin' amuse you? What do they mean funny, funny how? How is she funny? |

That first photo looks like it was taken in a nice secluded area where unrelated males couldn't see her. Perhaps I'm looking too far into the context. /I too thought helicopter. |

Has anybody else noticed how that large Afghan lady is managing to cast a shadow almost perfectly replicating Steve McQueen in The Great Escape? ![]() |

Trust me subby, I won't touch that. In Afghanistan now, can't wait to leave the shiathole country the heathens that live here behind me |

Problem: Lady is not a crime fighter. She just keeps people from stealing electrical services on the mini-grid she built. |

She'd have to be a LOT ballsier to ride a helicopter in Afghanistan. That place is the Kite-Eating Tree for helicopters. Hot, high, dusty, dry, and full of errant bullets. |

T-Boy: Problem: Lady is not a crime fighter. She just keeps people from stealing electrical services on the mini-grid she built. I bet you're great at parties. Seriously, don't piss all over this. She's stepping up and doing things even the men in her village won't or can't do. She's risking her life fighting for what's right. So chill. |

It's not like that anymore, I haven't seen or heard of a helicopter getting shot down in awhile. I have been here for 6.5 months and fly by helo all over the place to do my job. Haven't even been shot at while in the air once. |

So what's the payout on her getting wacked in the next 6 months by some Taliban nutcase who thinks the vagina is bad? Anyone? Vegas odds? |

It's unusual for a woman to be a leader in Afghanistan but Zarifa Qazizadah has become the country's only female village chief through force of personality and determination to get things done - even if that means cross-dressing, wearing a false moustache and driving around on a motorbike at night. Yeah, I'm guessing she probably doesn't have to wear a false mustache... |

T-Boy: Problem: Lady is not a crime fighter. She just keeps people from stealing electrical services on the mini-grid she built. Your weak mother cried when she was in labor for only 4 hours and needed epidurals. Heck, when something happens in the night, she rides out with her gun alone to defend her village in a country where "something happening in the night" can mean anything from guerilla terrorist fanatics to surprise flash floods. The most daring thing you probably have ever done is think about getting a tattoo. This woman deserves respect. |

It's still a relatively dangerous place for rotorcraft even without getting shot at though, thanks to the terrain and climate. Mountains + desert + aircraft that depends on its engines for lift = not a lot of margin for error. |

I'm wondering how many of my problems here in the U.S. could be solved by wearing a fake mustache. Probably more than I want to think about. |

I don't care if she's using stilts and clown shoes, I'm glad she's doing it. And by "it," I mean the job of shaming the Afghani men, rather than having soldiers from other nations in harm's way. If people want help, then let's help them. If they want to wallow in their own misery, so be it. |

| lumiere Wow! Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I have never ever been to Afghanistan and I most likely never plan on going there, but that country wasn't always the shiat hole we make it out to be now. When my father was studying in France during the 70s, he said that the few people he met from Afghanistan were among the most educated and most advanced at the time. This lady should be a role model, I prefer a biker chick who respects the law, as opposed to some brainwashed burka bearing fanatic. |
