| Canadian hang-glider pilot says he's really sorry he dropped that poor tourist to her death, and he only swallowed the video evidence because his 12-year-old daughter stressed him out |

| Confabulat When I forget to do part of my job, someone comes by the desk vaguely annoyed and reminds me not to do it again and then I try to remember for a couple weeks. I don't frickin' fly strangers around on a giant kite for a living. |
||
| doglover I think I would make a wonderful hang gliding instructor. As long as my students never actually wanted to try hang gliding. |

| mikaloyd "Memorial: A group of hang gliders gathered at the place where Lenami Godinez-Avila died to plant a cherry blossom tree and erect a cross a week after her death" I guess they had to fill the crater with something. |

Hey, at least he apologized. It doesn't make the woman come back to life, but he now has to live with it for the rest of his life. Along with whatever legal penalties might come his way. |

Destroying evidence really speeds up the "this was just a terrible accident" to the "negligent homicide" charge. |

I know when I'm stressed out, nothing calms me like eating memory cards. Sweet, tasty memory cards. |

He should have given himself a bloody nose and a few cuts and claimed he was just flying his air. |
||
| NutWrench He said his impulsive behaviour was due to 'overwhelming stress' that included his awaiting 12-year-old daughter on the field where the tandem flight was supposed to land. Oh, horseshiat. |

They really should just let her go |

I'm just going to say it: This is one of the more awesome ways to die. Almost no warning, a few seconds before you black out and done. Way better than heart disease or AIDS. |

I wonder if the memory card could survive the stomach acids. Should just lock him in a room with a buskett and wait and see. |

I wonder how it was decided who gets the job of extracting the memory card from a fresh turd. I'm suddenly much happier with my job. |

Brave enough to hang glide but too cowardly to face consequences. Man up you farking doiley, if your actions caused an accidental death accept the consequences. |

| megalynn44 I've still not heard any actual explanation of WHy she fell. Was it an equipment failure? Were they really too dumb to remember to hook her in? That seems almost impossible, seeing as, if I were going hangliding I would need to feel very confident I was strapped in. I've been ziplining before and you bet your ass I paid a lot of attention to how the safety clips worked and double checked I was attached before each jump. |

At least if it happens again there will be a tree to break someone's fall. |

His actions don't make him look very good, but was it equipment failure or negligence? Neither is any comfort for her family. :( |

rudemix: Brave enough to hang glide but too cowardly to face consequences. Man up you farking doiley, if your actions caused an accidental death accept the consequences. Could well be. However, in todays insane legal climate, destroying the video isn't always a bad idea. Lets suppose that if the fault could legitimately be 100% entirely placed on the lady doing something outrageously stupid, he is still looking at lawsuits that would ruin his business and his families life. Even frivolous ones will do it. So, I am not immediately thinking that just the fact he tried to hide the video necessarily implies he felt he had done something wrong to cause her death. Not saying he didn't either, just that hiding the card really doesn't mean much either way. He didn't even know exactly what was shown on it. /Getting caught doing it though certainly didn't help him any, even if it eventually does show he was in the clear. |
||
| It's actually whom
Forgetting to hook in is actually a common accident in hang gliding. Of course you're supposed to check before you go, but it's really easy to forget if you get distracted, or are waiting for the wind too long. I saw it happen once, but it was on a little hill so it wasn't a big deal for that guy. |

He admits in the headline that he messed up badly. Maybe the card swallowing was something impulsive and then he wised up. It certainly does not jive with an apology where he appears to be taking responsibility for what happened. |

Even frivolous ones will do it. Letting someone fall to their death while hang-gliding with you as the instructor probably ruins any further business you might have had in the first place. Video or no video. Swallowing potential evidence is just piling on that that point. /definitely has one less repeat customer |

GoodyearPimp: I'm just going to say it: This is one of the more awesome ways to die. Almost no warning, a few seconds before you black out and done. Way better than heart disease or AIDS. I think I'll go with Detective Lennie Briscoe's take on how he wanted to die: "In my 23rd century spacesuit on one of the moons of Jupiter". Seriously, though, sudden deaths are a biatch for those left behind. One of the nice things about slow deaths like cancer is you can get your affairs in order and say goodbye to everyone. |

Problem is, she only paid for the hang. There is an additional fee to glide. |

Bacontastesgood: you can get your affairs in order and say goodbye to everyone. Getting your affairs in order is a kindness to your intimates, but it does you no good, and anyway is mostly an issue for people with dependents or significant estates, not singles in their 20s. Saying your goodbyes is as apt to make people feel worse as it is to make them feel better. Depends on personality, maybe, but to many people it is just a miserable prelude to the Final Croak. One of my friends died suddenly (OD) and I'm glad that my last memories of her was of her partying hard rather than burbling out some tearful farewell. You die as you lived. It is fitting that people remember you for how you lived. Your life with them is your eulogy. |
