Very true. When you look at it, sure. It looks pretty cool. But, when you actually stop and think about why those flags are there, it's not really that great.

Is fortheloveofgod going to show up and talk about the guts it takes to pass Infantry OSUT again? OH MY TEBOW A WEEKLONG FTX!!! The horror. Get over this shiat. Most of the soldiers soaking up this hero worship are POGs who love to tell anyone with a vagina that they are whatever the Toby Keith concert told them they are.

It wouldn't matter if they placed 2.6 million flags. No one will ever appreciate Decoration Day as much as they should. If you see someone drinking a beer or eating a hot dog today, punch them square in their irreverent face. Even then, you still fail at patriotic remembrance.

Wonder if they put three flags on the graves that have body parts from other guys in them.

/had to put the "extra" parts somewhere.

If I wasn't in the car, I'd post a George C. Scott in front of the giant flag pic.

My family came to this country in about 1670, fought in every war from that time for this country. Number of them buried at Arlington, proud of 'em and am thankful that they are remembered.

/Came to this country as their womenfolk were being burned for being witches in Scotland

What, exactly, is a normative response to recognizing the sacrifice of our troops so that we may have the freedoms to do that which we like? Is it everyone being all solemn and in a state of unquestioned reverence or is it doing something we want thanks to those very freedoms and liberties regardless of what other people may or may not do to acknowledge today's importance?

Kome, both, we honor with a parade, we go to the cemetary, several speeches read, a salute is fired, then the kids get free ice cream from the back of the firetruck and we go home to barbeque. Or so that is how it was done when I was a wee lass.

It inspires a sense of awe in me that more than a quarter of a million Americans had their lives cut short in the service of this country and our ideals. I hope this is what submitter meant. The immensity of that number of deaths is tragic, possibly necessary, but not awesome.

That's my point. Every remembrance article I've read to day has followed the same argument line: "You aren't appreciative at all, but maybe today you can just stop chugging Miller Lite and eating Hebrew Nationals just long to ever so briefly remember the sacrifices of our troops. You're probably too selfish to muster even that, so I wrote up this heartfelt personal essay because I'm so much more patriotic and thankful than you'll ever be. Oh, and did I mention that I'm a complete asshole who never served?"

Funny how the people who served don't make a big deal of it. But the people who had the chance and didn't sacrifice, turn it into some big guilt trip.

And when exactly is the day when we burn in effigy all the power hungry assholes and corporations and religious maniacs that drug us into this shiat in the first place?

more over that this only represents those buried in Arlington. Not in private or state service cemeteries.

Threads like these disgust me.

Not because I don't think the fallen should honored but because of the "clever" assholes being so damned disrespectful.

I am grateful for all who have put themselves in harms way for my country.

Tiny flags used as decoration are a disrespectful violation of the American Flag Code. This event is basically equivalent to grabbing the closest flag and wiping your ass with it. It's a travesty of ignorance mixed with foolish good intention.

Yeah if I was a real patriot I'd be lying about WMDs or dreaming up some crackpot domino theory to justify one of the most wasteful big government programs ever ( aka the military ).

If there's one thing I hate about Memorial Day it's the constant lecturing. How I should feel and shouldn't feel. What I should do and shouldn't do.

I live in California and have seen of course many, many more American flags put up for Memorial Day.

I have also seen lots more Mexico flags going up???? Is this people from Mexico's way of showing support or is this just another Fark you America this was our land first???

I'm not sure what to think but it does not seem to be a good idea.
