This. Also, knowing how the small indoor leagues are run, there was no intention of letting him own any part of the team. They just wanted free publicity. And at $200/game or so in salary, the amount of coverage they got was insane.

I was caffinatedly challenged when I wrote that post. Sounded good to my partially functional brain at the time.

Yes, but the ownership was extremely happy to do it - basically it's a situation where you get a famous person to work for you with the idea that they're going to get star treatment, that they get an ownership stake, etc...then you treat them just like everyone else, say that they're "not being a team player" as though you actually expected them to be one, and look for any sign you can late-ish in the season to cut them and avoid having them take anything long-term.

They've played 11 games, he's played in 8, they're 6-5...I put his earnings down in his IFL career at less than $2000, before taxes. For 3 months' worth of work.

And you KNOW the name alone was worth more than that in season ticket and walk-up ticket sales.
