They were short a couple of waiters. |
||
| Staffist From escaping Cuba on a raft to being fed and feted in a floating Magic Kingdom must be a hell of a trip in every sense of meaning. |

"You've just been rescued from certain death. What are you going to do now?" |

GAT_00: They were short a couple of waiters. I came for something like this......"Meh, They'll end up in indentured servitude to the Mouse anyway". |

Castro's gonna crack anytime now. I can feel it; it's different this time. |

So....are they returned to Cuba or not? I thought you had to reach land in the U.S., otherwise you are deported. I find it interesting that the article didn't even mention it, like it's assumed a Disney ship is U.S. terra firma. |

. . . who "fell overboard" from a yacht, found adrift later that day with six dead passengers. . . . |

Aha, I just figured out why there was no substance in the article: This item was written by Fran Golden, a cruise expert and Trip Coach for Budget Travel magazine. |

... great. Can we just chop everything just north of Orlando and let it drift out to sea? |
||

They could have been picked up by the coast guard by now yet "The rescued men remain onboard." Holding the passagers and crew hostage while spreading TB to everyone. Spiffy! |

I wonder if they have special quarters for this kind of thing. I doubt they're sipping pina coladas on the Lido Deck. |

The story said the ship was in Mexico right now so... they will jump ship there and cross the border illegally like everyone else! They get a second chance to do it. |

doesn't Walt Disney eat Cuban children or something? |

So, since they didn't make land what happens with them? I believe the US law says that they only get asylum if they make it to land. If rescued at sea by the Coast Guard they're S.O.L. |

You know, they don't have to live like that. |

No self-respecting Cuban would ever step foot in Mexico. There are Mexicans in Mexico. |

Christian Bale: like it's assumed a Disney ship is U.S. terra firma. Isn't it, if the ship is US-flagged? If it's Liberian-flagged, maybe they can seek asylum there (though maybe they'd prefer the Liberian Navy to return them to Cuba). |

So, is the Coast Guard going to "seize the conveyance", or is that only for poor people? http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/cg531/AMIO /FOIA_Docs.pdf |
||
| KaiserRoll I think they have to throw them back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet_feet ,_dry_feet_policy |

I was on the Disney Dream a month ago- the sister ship to the Fantasy (in TFA). If these guys are able to get anywhere in the regular guest areas (doubt it, but still), they will have their minds friggin' BLOWN. I half wonder if the crew didn't run them through the AquaDuck (the onboard water coaster) just for the hell of it. |

Most of the vessels that we do pull migrants off of, or seize drugs off of, we destroy so they are not hazzard to navs, or turn over to the closest government. And if you don't think we'll confiscate a yacht, think again. |

Wonderful, more farkin' latinos to fly their flags from their rear view mirrors!!! If they are so proud of their country why do they keep trying to leave it??? That includes the PR's too....if you're so damn proud of it, go on back....we won't mind a bit! Sorry all you "Boricua's" out there, but "MI orgullo" is and always will be old glory. \Assimilate or leave! |

Here's what will happen. The US Coast Guard and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency will take them into custody. They will receive medical screenings within 24 hours and be sent to one of the several hundred detention centers throughout the US. Most likely the one near Miami. They will receive a judicial review by a Federal Immigration law judge and dispositioned. They may get one of the folllowing: 1) remain in detention, (1A: remanded to a medical detention facility) 2) export back to Cuba, 3) export to a third country who will take them, 4) given refugee status. Like all things, it's up to the judge to decide. USCG and ICE cannot legally make those determinations. /Now you know |
