| Ishkur Oh for fark's sakes. Leafs fans: Let it go already. This is pathetic. If it was a SCF Game 7 OT conspiracy, you might have a case, but this is a blown call from a referee in Game 6 of the Western Final. Even if Kerry Fraser made the call, there's no guarantee you would have won the game. There's no guarantee you would have won game 7. There's no guarantee you would have done anything in the Finals against a Canadiens team that won 10 straight overtime games, backstopped by what is probably the most incredible individual performance by a goalkeeper in the history of the NHL playoffs (they eviscerated the Kings in five games). You were barely 70% of the way to the Stanley Cup and you act like it was stolen from your bedroom. This incident is never going to get better, but it wasn't why you lost. You lost because you weren't good enough. You were a genuine top 10 team throughout the 90s but never a serious contender. You were never going to win the Cup; it was never going to happen no matter how many what ifs you throw at it. So just stop. Seriously. You sound like an anal retentive trick who feels he got ripped off from a $10 handjob. If this is the only thing you can cling to as the hallmark of a 40+ legacy of futility, you are the saddest god damn franchise in professional sports. |

| RminusQ Whether or not now-retired referee Kerry Fraser was on anyone's payroll has yet to be proven and the rest of the leaked memo where we presume the names of operatives are located has been redacted. But Fraser would only be one of many who were employed by the Liberals to contain Quebec as the Sponsorship Scandal would later prove. Coincidentally, it was during the bribery-marred Sponsorship Program (a program established to heighten the Government of Canada's profile in Quebec via contributions to Quebec industries and other activities in order to quell momentum of the Parti Québécois and thwart their efforts to promote Quebec independence) that theToronto Maple Leafs were moved to the Eastern Conference, forever averting the possibility of the two teams meeting in the finals. |

| unyon Oh, FFS. Toronto lost because Potvin quit standing on his head by the third round. Full stop. Quit blaming others for the incompetence of your own team. /43yrs old, haven't seen TO win the cup in my lifetime |

| Resolute The best part of this conspiracy theory is the suggestion that Kerry Fraser was competent enough to - in a split second's time - see a play, identify it as THE key moment that will SAVE Canada, and ignore Gretzky's high stick. Amusing. This is notwithstanding the fact that fans of every team in the NHL have a story about how Fraser screwed them. Oh, and I'll just leave this here... ![]() /Remember when the Leafs traded him just to spite Darryl Sittler? |

keiran: Is this the thread where we mope about Cup-less streaks? At least the Leafs have won. I'm convinced the Blues will never be allowed to win the Stanley Cup. Same with other mid-level flyover country markets like Minnesota, Nashville, Columbus and Winnipeg. I've been to games against the Red Wings where they practically murder a St. Louis player and there's no call. Then a Blues player gives someone a dirty look and they're sent to the box for 2 minutes. /Gary Bettman sucks. |

This psychopath brings up a good point. Because we all know that there's nothing the NHL *HATES* more than Canadian Teams doing well in the playoffs and making the cup finals/winning the cup. |

When did they change the start times for the games in LA? All games are now scheduled to start at 5pm eastern. Sucks for local fans but awesome for those of us on the other side of the country. |

| bingethinker It wasn't Kerry Fraser who jobbed the Leafs in game two of that series, and returned to job them in game five. The series would have been over in five games. /not a Leafs fan //they would have been blown out in four games by Montreal in the finals anyway |

Oh god. No. /Leafs fan Ishkur: Oh for fark's sakes. Leafs fans: Let it go already. Yeah. This is definitely the work of all the Leafs fans working together in concert. Believe me, this fanbase can't even agree on what the team should do most of the time. You're giving them too much credit. |

Considering the bigger conspiracy is that no Canadian team has won the Cup since 1993, I think you're doing it wrong. |

| soopey mjohnson71: soopey: mjohnson71: Have you looked at a map recently to see where Carolina, Anaheim and Tampa Bay are located? Not Canada? Would you describe them as "flyover country"? Depends on your destination. Carolina could be considered a flyover state. Anaheim isn't exactly the main destination most think of in socal. Neither is Tampa in Florida. |

Or Dallas. Or Denver. Or Newark. Most of the Cup winners of the last 2 decades have come from mid-markets. |

Ballard just sat back and let Imlach dismantle the team before finally firing him. Of course, Ballard had no business bringing Punch back to begin with. |

Figures this piece was written by a Leafs fan. Did the Leafs get screwed over? Sort of. It was a missed call. They happen a lot (Brett Hull's skate in the crease comes to mind). But it just doesn't matter. The Habs would have bulldozed the Leafs and that would have been that. Realistically, I think Leafs fans would be even MORE bitter now had they gone to the finals that year and lost to Montreal. Jesus, they're pretty unbearable now. Can you imagine if their last point of reference to the Stanley Cup finals was a loss to the Habs? |
