Good God, how absurdly dense do you have to be to even remotely consider stealing and selling THOSE types of wire for scrap?

If he was electrocuted for peeing on the overhead rail wire from the ground, I might be impressed. If he did, he could get one heck of a deal at Big Bill Hale's car dealership HOME OF CHALLENGE PISSING!

Well, at least they don't say "electrocuted" in the article body, even though it's right there in the link.

Really stupid. Ask any train robber: you do NOT mess with the conductor.

So many rules about what I can and can't steal. It's hard to stay current.

NEWARK - NJ Transit says a man survived after he was shocked with electricity while trying to steal overhead rail wires this morning.

Well, In defense of the J-schooler, I guess he could have been shocked with higher taxes or shocked by the low low price stolen copper wire brings.

Speaking of OHLE electrocutions. Whatever happened with that lawsuit of the idiot who climbed a fence to get into an Amtrak yard, tried breaking into an Acela power car, then climbed on top of it and was electrocuted by the wires. I think the claim was that Amtrak should have known people trespass and done more to protect people from doing it.

I've often wondered how people can to steal wires with power running through them and not get zapped. I touch an electric fence and I get zapped. How do copper thieves do it without getting zapped?

I bet he read about someone stealing wiring from a west coast system a few weeks ago but didn't read the bit about which wires were stolen.

Young man, I'am simply shocked by this behavior snd if you think I am mad, the sparkes are really going to fly when your father gets home. You are grounded until further noticed.

It was several miles of wire from the lightrail system in a dicey part of south Seattle. It was done by somebody with a working knowledge of the system, obv. You can find tfa in the Seattle PI.

Do metal dealers really care so little about where they get their materials that they would not question receiving that type of wire from someone not related to the transit industry?

If he had died, I would have suggested cranking up the amps and playing "Amazing Grace" by Jimi Hendrix on the electric guitar for him.

I was always of the opinion that an electrified fence would be the right remedy for these sort of things, just like they should use some guard animal that bites people to prevent them from climbing the fences in zoos.

You know, there would be a lot of taxpayer savings if they would just set up a big Copper sculpture with a huge fence around it and big legal keep out danger signs and charge the sculpture to 20K volts. "They check in but they don't check out"

At least the writer gets a +1 for using "electrified" instead of "electrocuted", since the man did not die, and was not subject to execution via electricity.
