I have never been in a Pep Boys where I felt like the employees were both honest and competent. One or the other, but never both.

Didn't Pep Boys have a failed merger in 2008? How'd that year work out?

The two Pep Boys stores I go to in Orlando are pretty good to me.

Been going to one of them for nearly 20 years.

Pep Boys does everything for less, including returning equity to shareholders.

I have. It was 25 years ago, but I have.
Auto parts stores in general suck these days; racks and racks of floor mats and not a decent oil drain pan.

I have heard lots of Pep Boys horror stories, but my local store is pretty good (despite many bad google reviews). Even knocked around $200 off my bill due to them ordering a replacement part that was broken too, without me asking. Plus took my 10% off coupon on top of it. Going by the numbers and what they did, I got an excellent deal. Same when I bought tires there a few years back. I drive an old beater so I'm not too concerned for quality.
\Found a local auto garage that I can walk too now though. Only go to Pep Boys for the $19.99 oil changes
\Parts are a rip-off at most auto part stores. I ordered something at Advance Auto Parts and drove ~15 miles to and from because I had a $10 off thing. The item is the same price every day at Walmart :|

Have we popped the Mumford? Have we? If not, then bang a whore and shoot a gore and call it a great day.

i don't know if i want to give a congrats to these guys or say to them why the fark do you put up with this stuff and your customers. i live in a pretty poor area and the national chain parts store [not pep boys] parking lot that is in a busy strip mall always has cars being worked on by the owners. this state doesn't have car inspections and its very warm so pieces of shiate that should have been sent to the boneyard years ago are still running-barely. i'm thinking the employees have to put up with alot of crap from the customers wanting free advice on the best way to keep these things running for as little money as possible instead of taking it to a real garage and getting it done right. its a no win situation for the employee. if the customer gets his car fix following the advice of the pep boy guy the customer pats himself on the back. if the fix doesn't work for whatever reason the customer screams at the parts clerk. heck i've seen the employees get underneath cars that are half arsed on jacks in the parking lot. you couldn't pay me enough to deal with this.
