I hope they find him, but if he went down in the forest, well..the odds are that the outlook is grim in finding him alive, or ever finding him at all. Trees do bad things to aircraft. He will probably be found by a hunter, or a boy scout, as often happens in situations like this.

She says she had exchanged text messages with him during his return flight and his last message said he had "cleared the mountains."

Said pilot is forming an elite outfit called "the Bearkillers" in preparation for a global apocalypse.

Idaho real estate sure is attracting a lot of small planes, lately

I blame global warming, of course

I have a friend who was a bush pilot in that area for a number of years. He chose his plane, a HelioCourier, specifically because of it's very low stall speed. His thinking was that, if he had to crash into trees, he wanted to do it at the lowest possible speed.

The engine was turning into potatoes, and someone heard that?

Some time ago, I read a book that was just summaries and cockpit voice recorder transcripts for airplane crashes. An alarming number of the transcripts read about like your comment. One of my personal favorites was, "Nonsense, the minimum in-flight altitude for this leg is----END OF RECORDING"

/I wondered if the book would be a good choice for in-flight reading.

Fixed.

Yeah, they're gonna find this guy in like 50 years when they happen to clearcut the particular area of forest he's in. Otherwise he's fooked.

Yeah man, I'm all about the snarky, but with dude's daughter is graduating high school this weekend and all... seems a bit harsh. If we knew he had a fark tag we'd be showering him with positive comments, like some of the threads I'v seen in the past.

Dunno man, conflicted.

Holy fark that was one of the worst (grammatically) comments I've ever posted on Fark. Way to make a point.

It's not likely that tree cover is going to greatly hinder this search. This is a large area, much of which is pretty wide-open and desert-like. However, there are many abrupt elevation changes.
