I think they already have that in the CN Tower in Toronto. Which, IIRC, is considerably taller than the Space Needle. |

Oh. I was hoping that by space needle, they meant we were finally working on a space elevator. That'll learn me to get my hopes up. |
||
| LeroyBourne For some reason I think this will turn into a 'stripper' thread. |

They have one in the Pearl Tower in Shanghai at 240 meters up. I went there with a friend who tops the scales somewhere around 300 pounds and it was really funny to see the Chinese tourists scurry out of the way to avoid being on the same plate as he was. |

Fortunately, unlike the Chicago Skydeck there is no WRONG side of the space needle to put this on. Why the skydeck chose to put the platforms on the side opposite downtown I dunno. "Whoopee, I'm standing above a rundown industrial area!" |

It was considerably more crowded than the pictures show, though still pretty dang cool. |

Glass platforms? |

"Whoopee, I'm standing above a rundown industrial area!" I believe they did that because it's the only side of the building that goes straight down to ground level from that floor. Otherwise you'd just be looking down at the roof of a portion of the building. |

My wife is going up in the Space Needle today for a friend's bachelorette dinner. She hates heights and doesn't want to go. She'll never go up again if they get glass floors. |

CN Tower in Toronto just got better. You can walk around it outside, strapped to a harness. |
||
| jayfurr ya know, if you want to really get a good look at what the Earth looks like from way up high, call your local skydiving firm and pay for a tandem jump. 12,000 feet up, I was going "wow, this is just like looking at a map of this area. Yeah, there's Dead Creek, there's the bridge into New York, there's Middlebury, blah, blah, blah." Freakin' awesome. |

Because we don't have other stuff we could be spending this money on right? Almost makes one want to sit in the bushes below and fire at the floor with a pellet gun for giggles. |

I think this is a great idea. I, however, will never step onto it. |

| Miss Stein Dallymo: I farking hate the Space Needle. I'm hyperventilating just remembering that goddamn elevator ride. And the walkway around the top! *bleargh* [CSS] When the Space Needle opened on the evening of 4/21/62, one of my relatives and his buddy were happening by, on shore leave, in uniform, and extremely drunk. One of the local luminaries saw the two sailors, and thought it would be a good patriotic gesture to have Men in Uniform take one of the first rides in the Space Needle elevator. The two sailors were ushered into the glass elevator with the other VIPs. The doors closed, the car shot skyward, and my relative's buddy went "Bleeeccchhhh!" and vomited all over the glass walls and new carpeting. Upon returning to ground level, the two were so embarrassed they scurried off as soon as the doors opened. Thus the Space Needle received an unexpected christening by the US Navy. [/CSS] |
