I don't know. Exporting a show with good educational values and a positive social message seems like a good way to fight ignorance in a place where ignorance helps foster terrorism.

Well, one of the ways it works is that all foreign assistance, total, is about 1.5% of the budget, with humanitarian aid like this about 1/3 of that 1.5%.

Defense is 19%, medicare and social security are 43%. Complain about those, it makes a lot more sense.

As someone who worked closely with USAID in the developing world, let me give you the secret:

1) USAID is our way of bribing countries to like us.
2) Massive amounts of grant money are stolen by the locals.
3) Projects are largely unsuccessful because there is little real supervision or follow through.

Now, I don't think we should cut aid money. We have the opportunity and ability to do some real good. But we're not doing a whole lot right now and there needs to be a serious re-evaluation of how USAID operates before we can.
