High powered shotguns and pistol? Sure, I guess compared to an archer set those are "high powered."

Aussies aren't allowed to own pump-action shotguns. They're considered a 'Category D' firearm and only government agencies are allowed to possess functional pump-actions and semi-auto shotguns, along with semi-auto handguns.

Even possessing a rimfire (.22) revolver, break-apart shotgun, air rifle or a paintball gun, which are classified as 'Category A' firearms, the potential owner must show a "genuine reason" for purchase. "Pest control", "hunting", "target shooting" and collecting" are valid "genuine reasons". "Self-defense" is not a valid "genuine reason".

Two members of the Australian Olympic swim team are under fire for posing with three high-powered guns and posting the photo on Facebook.

Three? High-powered? What's going on here?

My SO is an American raised in Australia for 18 years and she's horrified by guns. The've been running some pretty serious anti gun propoganda in Aus for awhile now. There seems to be a real generational and urban/outback split about firearms there. Alot like L.A. and S.F. vis a vis the rest of California actually.

They changed. Now they willingly submit to being bullied by busy body do-gooders. U have no idea what, if anything, they were promised in exchange for becoming pussies. Probably it was those two frauds safety and security though.

Australians' biggest fear has been realized. They have become British again.

They should be in hot water.

That's intensely unsafe gun handling. Stupid poses, fingers inside the trigger guards... Someone should have put a stop to that.

The only outrage i see here is both of those morons have their fingers on the triggers. Keep your goddamn finger off the goddamn trigger unless you intend to pull it.

Quick reality check here...

The outrage is more about the fact that these two are a pair of dickheads who have form for being total dickheads and who should never have been selected to represent the country. The guns? Not a problem really.

To quote Peter FitzSimons "No laws were broken, no damage caused. Why then the outcry?

Because the image again triggers the extreme dislike the Australian public particularly has for D'Arcy, not least because after being convicted of bashing Simon Cowley and declaring himself bankrupt to avoid paying damages, he still made the Olympic team.

Monk's previous offence was also grave, making a false statement to police about a hit and run accident, when in fact no one was involved but him and his skateboard - but he made the team too."

Playing with guns in a legal atmosphere and then bragging about it is a "poor decision"?

I'd understand if it was hookers or drugs maybe, but firearms?
That's absurd.
