| bdub77 And only 12 million of romney's 76 million came from donations of $250 or less. That's not to say Obama doesn't have rich supporters, Clooney's event supposedly raised like 25% of that 60 million. Amazing the amount of money being thrown around in this political cycle. Then you remember how much of this country the rich own. |
||
| Mugato At this point in the campaign, if the amount of money one candidate has over the other will determine the election, then we're farked anyway. /oh, dammit |

| Damnaged As one of the few conservatives on this site I have a few things to say about this election. 1. Romney is a fascist. 2. Obama is a communist. 3. I hate them both. 4. Obama will win. |

| hubiestubert Though, if the Wisconsin numbers hold, he's going to need another $290M to guarantee a victory... |

| Lando Lincoln Since Citizens United, I don't think that the money flowing into the candidate's hands is that important anymore. |

| Saborlas So? The ONLY thing Romney has going for him is that he gives the Obama-haters someone to vote for. He has the interpersonal appeal of a mannequin giving double middle fingers. His ideas are proven crap. And he's got a face that just makes most people who meet him wanna give him a gold-encrusted knuckle sammich. |

Whatever happened to that much ballyhooed "billion dollars" that everybody said Obama had in the bank for this election? I have no doubt that Obama will raise his share from all the homosexuals, socialists and union thugs out there who will blindly follow him no matter what. But it looks like the GOP is going to be able to match him dollar for dollar this time around - and then some. |

It's all a pointless waste of time. Obama's readying the FEMA camps and will be President for life, or at least until Jesus returns and kills all the liberals. |

Romney wins by outspending his opponent 10-1. That's his MO. Even odds is bad news for him. |

Ok, up here in Canada the candidates spend $17.50 on elections. What is all this money for in the US? Don't they each already have enough money to buy commercial time on every channel in the swing states from now til the rapture? What else are they spending it on? |

I like them both. Let's see if all the sleaze that will be thrown around between now and November changes that. |

Romney's a fascist, huh? I don't think that's true, and making statements like that only serves to lend less credibility to whatever argument you make after that -- constructive or otherwise. Do you really think President Obama will win again? He only won by 7% in 2008. Hell, I almost voted for him, but he certainly hasn't gained any new supporters. The magic of this novelty President is gone. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you. I think Romney/Paul will win in a landslide. |

He's also got a real record of accomplishments, as much as people want to pretend he doesn't. He's got the advantage of being able to run against Congress, the most hated body ever. It'll come down to voter turnout - the righties always turn out. As long as the left can get the youth to actually vote, they'll take the race pretty easily. |

Don't they each already have enough money to buy commercial time on every channel in the swing states from now til the rapture? What else are they spending it on? Travel expenses for candidates plus entourages. Compensation for street-level workers/local offices. Seed money for other fundraising events. Donations to candidates in exchange for endorsements. It's probably the only jobs Mitt Romney will create, even if elected. |

I love these numbers... but just remember we're in a dire recession. The people throwing these millions around really can't afford a 3% bump in their tax rate. |

| bulldg4life Thankfully, it doesn't matter how much the candidate has. The only important thing are the massive political campaigns funded by corporations and unnamed third parties. Beautiful democracy it is. |

mrshowrules: Obama is a compassionate, moderate conservative The last I heard, murdering innocent women and children does not make you "compassionate". "If you go to the village of Al-Majalah in Yemen, where I was, and you see the unexploded clusterbombs and you have the list and photographic evidence, as I do--the women and children that represented the vast majority of the deaths in this first strike that Obama authorized on Yemen--those people were murdered by President Obama, on his orders, because there was believed to be someone from Al Qaeda in that area. There's only one person that's been identified that had any connection to Al Qaeda there. And 21 women and 14 children were killed in that strike and the U.S. tried to cover it up, and say it was a Yemeni strike, and we know from the Wikileaks cables that David Petraeus conspired with the president of Yemen to lie to the world about who did that bombing. It's murder--it's mass murder--when you say, 'We are going to bomb this area' because we believe a terrorist is there, and you know that women and children are in the area. The United States has an obligation to not bomb that area if they believe that women and children are there. I'm sorry, that's murder." Of course, if you are horrified and learn from the mistake, that would be one thing. Lying to cover up for the mistake is another. |

you don't need truth. You do not need facts. all you need is money to win elections because so many voters cast thier vote based on emotions and gut feelings I wouldn't mind the Hienlien's Starship trooper idea is that in order to be able to vote or run for office you need to join the military and take morality classes Maybe we could make it so that if people want to vote they have to take critical thinking classes |

Of course, if you are horrified and learn from the mistake, that would be one thing. Lying to cover up for the mistake is another. Would you equally lay blame on GW on the mistakes made in Afghanistan and Iraq? If only because you've been playing this particular card a lot lately, yet seem oddly silent on the mistakes made during the invasion in Iraq under GW's leadership. Especially considered the trumped up justification for heading in the first place--while steadily ignoring the sad fact that we are having to deal with the situation that was left to this President. Easier to stay out, than get out, and part of the legacy we have, is the ridiculous situation that was left to fester due to a lack of will to consolidate matters, and worse, the resources that were squandered in order to split the efforts in Afghanistan, as opposed to strengthening the regime change there BEFORE heading off to a new adventure. And consequently the ignoring of Bin Laden, who was important enough to chase into the hills, but not important enough to actually take down... |
