The entire United States government should disband. Let's do anarchy for awhile. It'll be fun! |

Exactly. But don't expect to hear anything except "the fiscal cliff" we're going to "drive off of" at the end of this year. If Obama extend the Bush tax cuts for people earning over 250,000 I'm going to seriously be pissed. I'd be willing to get a temporary extension for the earners under that for economic stimulus purposes, but caving to the Republican demands would be disastrous for our debt. |

Have you noticed which party controls the House? Do you honestly think it's possible that Obama will get a bill from Congress that extends the tax cuts for those making less than $250K, but allows them to lapse for those making more? |

If the option for the house is to have them lapse for everyone. Maybe. |

Replace "go home" with "commit suicide" and I would be more inclined to agree. |

No. They should stay in session until they bring unemployment down. If that means missing the campaign season, all the better. |

I honestly don't see it happening. I think either nothing will happen (all tax cuts will expire) due to that's how the deck is stacked for our inactive congress, OR Obama will cave and make all tax cuts permanent. The fact that the Republicans run around crying about "the debt! the debt!" while not trying to pay it down infuriates me. I think a politically savvy move would be to create a replacement tax cut...brand it the Obama tax cuts, and make it only for people making 100,000 or so and under. Then vow to veto the Bush ones for renewal, and hold to your promise. It places the republicans in a position to vote against a tax cut. |

If they are doing nothing already, what difference would it really make? |

Both the payroll tax cut (Obama's) and the Income tax cuts (Bush's) need to end. Cutting taxes during wartime, unthinkable in history. And we did it because China (and others) were happy to buy the debt. And yes, doing that would cost me thousands of dollars per year. And it would be worth it to stabilize the economy. Deficit spending has shielded us from the grim realities of free trade (aka - few jobs that actually produce something). We can't support millions of telephone sanitizers on a balanced budget. Also, raise the retirement age for those still working and freeze SS COLAs for five to eight years as THEIR contribution to help fill the hole they dug. And end the farking wars. Hell, the country needs a frank discussion about why we have hundreds of bases around the world. If we have to be the global policeman, shouldn't the rest of the world pay us for Pax Americana? Also, end extended unemployment benefits and bring back WPA. At least we can get something for the money. |
